anon, they’re both very feminine Pokemon. But Espeon gives Red a solid Psychic type and Lapras just overlaps types to make 1/2 of his team weak to Electric.

according to gf's lore department, you treat the latest version of the game as canon and since LGPE is updated Kanto, FRLG are now voided. BDSP take over Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, ORAS is canon over RSE

I love Lapras but god is it incredibly redundant with Blastoise being their able to use water and ice type moves. A better rep would be Pidgeot, Taurus, or even Mewtwo if he is supposed to represent the final boss equivalent. Makes sense to give him a legendary, and since he is a Kanto rep you got none better. Also fits with being a better sub for Espeon which is a psychic type too.

He's using his Pokemon that he uses in place of each starter he doesn't take, which implies they just took the route of trying to avoid making any starter canon by giving Red all of them, and Blue his replacements

Lapras isn't optional I don't think. Or if she is, she is almost impossible to miss. You get given her by some dude in sliph co which is a mission you need to do to unlock Sabrina and you literally have to be in the room with the guy because I am pretty sure you get lapras in the room the rival fight happens before the geovani fight, because during the beta Lapras was a key item.

None of those work because all of Red’s Pokemon were given to him or unavoidable. Snorlax? Had to face. Lapras? Given to him. The starters? Given to him. Espeon? Given to him. The only possible exception is Pikachu but that’s his starter in Yellow so it’s debatable there as well.

Giving him Pidgeot, Taurus or Mewtwo contradicts this. It doesn’t work. Red has never gone out of his way to capture a Pokemon besides MAYBE Pikachu.
