Johto is probably the worst set of starts though (never played beyond gen 5)

Sinnoh > Kanto > Unova > Hoenn > Johto

To me, the first five generations didn’t have anything too awful. Everything isn’t my favorite, but none are outright offensive. The only good starters since then have been Chesnaught and Decidueye.

Best overall set of 3 is probably Johto, if I were to pick and choose my starter dream team it would be Charmander, Mudkip, and idk probably Chikorita

Torterra is horrendously drawn/designed. It looks like a damn slug with diglets holding it off the ground. And the silver ring separating it from its shell looks like a throw away design choice.

Nah, I've still gotta give it to the High School Trio. Great concepts and designs full of personality, mostly great in-game and with comp niches and most of all they look perfect together. The Alolan starters play off each other better than any other group.
