Japan loves mixing ghost and fire symbology. They're often associated with each other in other games, stories, myths, etc. Ghosts are often represented as straight up flames in some video games/anime. It makes sense.

GF's obsession with Fire/Fighting will never make sense to me though.

Fuecoco's middle stage isn't part-Ghost anon. They don't give middle stage starters secondary typings, unless grandfathered in from the first stage (Ivysaur part-poison as Bulba was, Dartrix part-flying as it's an owl) and seeing as how Fuecoco's bog-standard monotype, its middle evo will be mono with the final stage gaining a secondary typing as per usual.

And they are unironically mostly fire/fighting. Type that makes game easy. Combusken for Norman, Monferno for Roark and Pignite for Lenora. Funfact, Marshtomp was easy mode for Watson

It should be fire/ghost by base, or could get a fire/ghost Evo. Variant wouldnt even make sense since Variants are firstly supposed to change the concept of the pokemon to another

The first gen of regionals only did that a few times.
Stuff like Dugtrio, Raticate, Exeggutor, Sandslash were just the same Pokemon in a different environment. And desu I preferred them that way
It was Gen 8 that started using regional variants as a way to slap a whole new 'theme' on an existing Pokemon
