I haven't followed the anime all that much but something has been bugging me about how Ash has reached this level; what now? Ash throughout the multiple series has always seemed to be an idiot savant, going from one place to the other, solving problems like a child and succeeding most of his goals. Do they expect us to believe that Ash is going to just suddenly go back to being an idiot after this? They opened the box of having a main character that can go toe-to-toe with champions of other regions and next they expect us to believe he's going to have some random puissant problem after this?

They've already given Ash a reason to go to Paldea by making Geeta the 'most skilled trainer in the world', they're likely setting everything up at the end of the M8 tournament arc regardless of who wins or loses. Everyone in Paldea are as strong as the M8 Champions so there's a challenge for Ash along the way. Main problem is what happens with Ash in Gen 10.

He's going to be Champion, and appear in SV anime as more of a guest star. He'll appear in episodes focused on the gym challenges, while Goh and Dawn will be main protags exploring Paldea. Goh will surprisingly run into him at towns with Gyms, where Ash, a celebrity now, will be competing in this new league.
