I actually liked Megas but it should have really been exclusive to 3 stage Pokemon and Legendaries then the rest of the 2 stage and 1 stage mons' Megas should have just been regular evolutions.

You could coordinate to play without megas. It was literally just another format you could avoid.
I think it could have been balanced to not need mega stone held items and only last 3 turns to prevent sweeps from the fast and hard mons.

They should add 20-30 more megas.
And just as many new gigantimax.
Bring back ALL the gimicks.
And replace the held item with a special counter.
You start a match with 1 charge. Which allows you to mega/dynamax/z move/terrasitalise. A single pokemon. When used the held item becomes disabled.
As the match goes on, every let's say 10 turns you gain another charge of the special counter. If a pokemon of yours gets knocked out it reduces your charge gage by a set amount, say if you lose a pokemon, you go from 10 turn CD to a 5-7 Turn cd.

The other Skill Link moves are icing, on already a solid of a cake as using Megahorn, but now with a pair of horns longer than Heracross itself, and not-horn based moves like Focus/Dynamic Punch
