I always stuck with a pre-planned team of six and rushed to the Pokemon League when I played Pokemon growing up, so I definitely have a deeper appreciation for how much content is in the 2-D gens.
Honestly, the challenge wasn't too bad aside from the beginning, which is a goddamn nightmare. Thankfully, you can train a team of pickup Liloones to level 21 and get rare candies, so you can save a ton of time if you leave the highest-level evolutions until the end. I don't think I would've gotten past the beginning without that. After Roxanne, you can get way better EXP yields and you can stomp every remaining battle effortlessly, so it's not as terrible as it could be.
