I knew it had to be a new type and we had Fairy or something like it already rumored at the time. But I do remember going on a rant how it could be Flying or Normal at one point because I found it so unbelievable they'd add a type themed around fairies of all things

New type. Since it didn't look or have a name that suggested dragon and I figured if Gamefreak wanted to do physical type eevees they would probably make a new pokemon line for it.

I did think it might have been Flying initially but it became clear from the hinting that it was a new type and 'nymph' in its Japanese name gave it away as introducing a Fairy type.

Thought it was Flying, stupidly ignored the Japanese and French names for it, both of which reference nymphs (female nature spirits).
But unlike a lot of my brothers on the wrong side of history, I'll admit I was being a plank at the time.

i wasnt around for this debacle, dont remember why i had dipped out of pokemon interest since id been in it every leak season since dppt and was definitely around for the rest of kalos leaks, but if i had i probably wouldve assumed bug but been hopeful for fairy. only thing i dislike about sylveons design is the pattern of pink/white on its face. i assume its meant to look like a heart but just makes me think of mickey mouse
