If you do not understand why Gen 2 is the best generation, or at the very least why it's good, it means you are simply a complete idiot.

I constantly see people complaining about gen 2's teambuilding and how difficult it is to build a strong and diverse team of 6 by the end. This is because the people complaining about this are stupid zoomers who have never had to think about a game in their life. Gen 2 has some of the best teambuilding in the entire franchise, because if you want to build a good team you need to actually SEARCH for the good mons.

>heracross in headbutt trees
>lapras only appearing on fridays
>phanpy and teddiursa right out the gate, but only in the mornings and only at 5% encounter rate
>the secret egg which can hatch into either something really good like elekid or something totally shit like igglybuff
>bug catching contest which only happens on a few days out of the week
>extremespeed dratini
>skarmory but only south of blackthorn city at 5%

I could really just go on and on and on. These games hid all the best candidates for your team behind MECHANICS. This was deliberate, and it's part of why gen 2 is so god damn good.

People also complain about the level cap, and how you're only around level 40 come time of the elite four. What is constantly neglected is the spike and opportunity for growth in Kanto. Gen 2 is the only generation to date to shatter the formula of pokemon games being over after the elite four, only to have a small postgame section. In Gen 2 by the time you beat the elite four for the first time, there is still about another third of the game left to be completed, with Red, the protagonist from the previous game being the true "end".
