If it's such a commonplace thing, it's just normal to them. Of course no one would comment on it.

Aura abilities seem to get remarked on more, at least in the anime canon. Probably because meeting an Aura wielder is probably far less common than meeting someone with any level of psychic ability, for them.

It's a holdover from the genwun days when Pokemon was still a vaguely post-apocalyptic urban fantasy and the Earthbound/Mother influence was more obvious. Psychic as a type probably wouldn't exist if Pokemon were made today, it would be merged with Fairy or repurposed into a Holy/Mage type.

There are probably more things that I'm forgetting, but you get the idea. It's an old theory that doesn't fit how the Pokemon world is portrayed in new generations. In all likelihood, it's probably something that was never planned, just vague coincidental details from back when the Pokemon world was more like the world of Earthbound.

Because it was a Game Boy game. What you were seeing was an abstraction, not a literal interpretation of the world.

This idea went right out the window when the anime (which was most people's first exposure to Pokemon anyway) premiered and showed us that the cities are just as big and densely populated as real world ones.
