>>51758114I don't think this is true though, if you look back at the trailers and information reveals leading up to Sun / Moon they're basically all in-game clips along with stock art pasted on the same background every time. I doubt the cost of making these was particularly high - the format was almost immediately copied by fans to churn out "fake leaks".
For SV we've seen a lot more variation in promotional materials, like the fully voiced Iono clips, boxes sent out to social media influencers (Personally I loathe this shit but it's an effective marketing strategy), the fucking Ed Sheeran song, and cinematic clips like the ghost hunt thing and the introduction of Grafaiai. If anything, it seems like they're spending more on marketing now than they have in years.
As a long-term core fan who will realistically "buy it anyway", I was definitely more satisfied with the plain but information-dense SuMo marketing, but with SV it seems like they're putting far more effort into targeting young people and casual fans.
