i'm playing the games for the first time a long while
honestly back then i used to be pretty retardedly focused in my playstyle (like only using six mons, scouring every inch of a dungeon even when i didn't feel like it, fighting every trainer, stuff like that but nothing about stats/natures/whatever) but it feels calming to just play the games normally

That would be nice. Could have any kind of story arc, I don't mind, just so long as it just feels like an actual world instead of a shounen battle gauntlet. Preferably with the pokemon getting as much as if not more focus than the humans.

I love pokemon too.
If a wizard or genie or something gave me the option to leave behind everything and be transported to the world of pokemon but never return to irl I would probably take it.

When I was a kid my grandpa took me to the mall and bought a GS cartridge. That was around 1pm and I played for hours - when night came, the game changed accordingly and dark pokemon started appearing. That was so magical for my kid self. I spent the weekend at my grandma's house.
That was truly one of the best days in my life.

I love daydreaming about my Pokemon, but I try to keep myself somewhat realistic in how I would be able to care for six Pokemon. I think if I had real Pokemon, and in an ideal world, I would still stick with just three of my absolute favorites. Top number 1 will always be Slowpoke, he's my friend forever. Yeah, I know what you mean. Not to mention, I adore Galarian Slowking, but the thought of my Slowpoke buddy basically being lost forever and something taking over in his place would just destroy me. At least with normal Slowking, he is just a much smarter buddy. I adore Poison/Psychic typing though so it is a conflict between the part of me that loves G.Slowking on its own, and the part of me that thinks how horrible it is to just sacrifice your friend to evolve him into something else.

Playing Violet really revived my love of the series. Though I'm already feeling a bit burnt on the game from how piss-poor it runs, I'm optimistic it gets fixed so I can really have a blast with my friends on raids and whatnot.

Thinking in the meantime I might go back and do some more fun stories. Pokemon always seems to inspire me for one reason or another.

My brothers

I always just imagined that my older mons stayed with gym leaders or were taking care of thematic places from their region of origin unless I needed their help. Once X/Y came out, I thought that they would also rotate to living on our berry farm while I was traveling to a new region for work/research/story and getting new family members.

That makes me especially sad. I have a principle of not buying excessively buggy or broken games, which SV certainly is, but there appears to be the best 3D, mainline game beneath the poor performance.
I may get it for Christmas and hope that GF releases several patches, by then.

I agree with the sentiment about Alola. Its actually my second favorite region, strong pokemon designs, awesome theme and cozy surroundings.
I think the massive issues in it are the over-the-top handholding to a ridiculous degree, and the level design itself. It was sorta cool that you could see the whole map at one time as per the ground, but it made the region overall feel extremely small, like each island was actually tiny.
When you actually got to run around the region without a cutscene every thirty second, I had a ton of fun.

I'd agree with all of those. Its somewhat lacking in replay value, because of all those cutscenes with Hau and the Rotomdex. The story itself isn't so bad, though, I liked that they made Team Skull just a bunch of misguided punks instead of a world-ending threat.
It has picrel, arguably one of the best pokemon designs of them all.
But in terms of coziness, it does go the extra mile. Little things like the cafes in the pokemon centres, restaurants and shops not dedicated to pokemon trainer goods, and the secondary locations like the resort. Makes it feel that mite more like a real, lived-in place, not a thing that exists solely for you to fight your way through with your ungodly powerful gladiator animals.

Alola, Galar and Paldea honestly all have suffered from Gamefreak’s technical issues moreso than any design flaw. I think Alola might have my favorite ratio of good to bad designs in the entire series yet it’s the first game I didn’t finish because even despite all the interesting new ideas it tried it was just such a slog of a game. Every game since B/W has felt like it’s had the DNA to redefine the series but just falls short. Still hold out hope eventually we’ll get there because I still see good in every game

My mood for pokemon is probably at an all time high. Even though everything isn't perfect, I have never been more excited to be engaged within the world of pokemon than I am now. I genuinely don't know what things would be like for me had I never been introduced to it all those years ago. My earliest memory as a human-being was literally playing pokemon red on my lime green gameboy color, and I really think that moment entirely cemented pokemon into my life.

I realized one day that Slowpoke is the pinnacle of Pokémon design and represents the best of the franchise in every way, even better than Pikachu. Mechanically and design wise it might as well be the ambassador of the series and everything it does right

I thought Hawlucha looked cool, caught and used it in XY and flying press completely won me over, its cry is also very cute. I also love the animations, in SV it does that preening animation from time to time. Lovely little bundle of murder.
