Last night, after 74 hours played, I finally encountered my first shiny. I was getting really demoralized that I hadn't seen any yet, even after spawncamping a couple outbreaks for hours, since this was the first game I've ever tried to shiny hunt in. Then just before bed I went to check a tera den, turned around, and saw it there under the water. He's a Palafin now and I named him ILCAman and he's my first shiny in gen 9!

I've seen people say its harder this gen than it was in PLA/SwSH but I've got two shinies without even trying, having boosts, or the charm.

It's maybe "harder" in the idea that you have to put in more effort to get to the hunt part, but the actual process of hunting is so babby easy that it offsets any trouble in getting the right outbreak or having to do raids

That's not true. There are fixed spawns that won't be different. The overworld tera mons are obviously one example, but there's other things that will always be in a particular location unless you kill them. Like the 3 Hariyama in the road in West Province 2.

it's basically misdreavus' normal shiny, but to me i never liked when an alternate form goes the route of "oh it's just the normal mon's shiny" or "oh it's the colors of the regular mon", scream tail and i guess great tusk to an extent at least didn't do that.

When a pokemon despawns out of my view and i go back to the area it was, is a new Pokemon generated/rolled or is it the same one?

i was down in Area Zero shiny hunting for Brute Bonnet and i was having a hard time telling if the ones appearing in the cave path were the same ones i saw or brand new ones being spawned in.

I don't think that's true. From what I can tell it usually tries to spawn things in the direction that you're looking at.

Unfortunately it is. The game can and will spawn shinies behind you- when I played multiplayer with my friend, he failed a shiny Sableye because it spawned directly behind him.

Well you can't keep a 360 degree view at all times, the camera isn't fast enough for that. Best to just keep looking forward and occasionally stop to peer at side / back spawns. Never know when turning around might save you.

Can encounter power 3 cause outbreaks that don't normally happen and aren't on the map? I had it for fairy type and ran into a gardevoir outbreak and no amount of resetting to change the outbreaks has ever resulted a gardevoir outbreak being on my map

how are people saying it's harder now, literally every single aspect of shiny hunting is easier, the only reason it's not easier than PLA is because the distance at which pokemon spawn is much closer than PLA, as well as no sound for shinies. if not for those 2 reasons, SV would be the easiest by far. i literally masuda methoded 3822 eggs with a shiny charm in SS and didn't even get one shiny outside of the pity ones from dynamax adventures.
i have an entire fucking box of shinies already in this game and i've only actually hunted for 2 of them.

Resetting for outbreaks is the hardest part of shiny hunting in this game, I swear to god. Why did John Nintendo make the game spawn the same 10 fucking shitmons over and over while you only get 1-2 outbreaks of Pokemon that spawn somewhere near where you are standing but never DIRECTLY where you are so to find a specific outbreak you have to do a fuckton of resets in different locations near where the Pokemon spawns like you're playing fucking Battleship.

depends on the egg power and i think different pokemon got different timers because when i was breeding out jigglypuffs they shat out eggs like crazy while sometimes it could take up to a minute and a half with egg power 2 to get a single egg with an eeveelution

Apparently the location in which you are in affects outbreaks to an extent. I was sceptic at first but it seems to be true, I had never found a goomy outbreak until now but I decided to start resetting on top of its spawn location and found an outbreak in like 10 resets.

I found a frigibax outbreak while resetting south of Glaseado Gym, but I can't remember if there was a snowstorm then. Also it seems like the outbreaks with these conditions kind of suck, because once it stops raining/snowing the pokemon stop spawning.

Though yesterday I kept getting catch power 3 instead of encounter power 3 on a normal sandwich when I used 2x sour. Was fine when I used 2 different ones. You’re supposed to be able to use any 2. You’ll get sparkling no matter what with any 2 but it seems that if you use the same 2 or perhaps specific combinations it may fuck up the encounter power now.

PSA: you can throw the top slice of bread off to the side so it doesn't make your ingredients bounce off your sandwich when you try to put it on. losing any ingredient will make your boosts vary/be lower levelled.

I love shiny hunting but I feel like with the addition of sandwiches combined with outbreaks, it's "too easy" now. It's still nice to get what you're hunting for but that same amount of serotonin just isn't there anymore. Just cruising around the map and finding random shinies is still kino though.

But yeah, I found a full odds shiny Hoppip, then decided, "You know what? I'm going to keep farming until I finally get that Roaring Moon I've been looking for!" Very first run on the evening I find it withing 7 minutes. I then go to that one cave area with the dragons and fine the other two. I tried to get a shiny Dratini and/or sushi in the lake with the last few minutes I had, but I guess after 4 shinnies, my luck had run dry. Not a bad haul overall though.

I've seen a ditto outbreak on the map before but when I went to it, nothing was there. Didn't even get the "You found an outbreak of Ditto" notification or whatever. Locked onto a few mons around the area to see if they were dittos disguised, nothing. Most likely another bug.

I had one outbreak next to a mountain cliff and all the pokemon were spawned inside the cliff. I could see them clipping through occasionally but they couldn't be battled at all, so it's a problem with other species too.

Spawns reset if you leave render distance, i.e. not very far. In the cave with the floor sigil you don't even need to go outside for new shit to spawn, just loop around the wall and up to the higher ledge area then back towards the door.

Actually, you don't even have to leave that main room with the symbol on the floor, you can literally just run a wide circle against the wall (you don't even have to go near the passageway door to the hallway part of the cave). I just got a shiny roaring moon from doing that.

SV is probably the 2nd easiest game to find shinies in with sandwiches + outbreaks. There is no challenge.

I got a "bigg'un" shiny abomasnow but not a YUGE one. Was the 5th one I caught with Humongo Power 2 on. I guess huge ones are actually pretty rare even with the sandwich. I'm going to move on to Cetitan. If I get a YUGE Cetitan I'll go back for abomasnow. If I get a bigg'un I'll just settle for that.

Pulling the camera close in seems to stabilize the framerate but that goes out with window with a ton of Pokemon on screen (aka an Outbreak) anyways. That combined with the Veluza makes hunting there pure torture, I did an Azumarill outbreak that was hugging the cliff right above the watchtower and even that made me want to kill myself.
And the worst part is that the second I see a Tatsugiri outbreak I know I'm gonna do it all over again
