If you grew up playing Pokemon, there's a "Pokemon region" in your brain.

Who buys both games? The whole point was to encourage trading with other people. Nowadays there's even less of a reason to buy both than back then.

I still dislike gamefreak for not going full throttle and making a single game that has everything thrown into it and forced to work together like pixelmon though

I liked the pokemon and the world. all that I liked is gone in that way from modern pokemon but what I liked from old pokemon is so special to me I cant pretend it isnt living rent free in my heart. it also doesnt disappear so I can always look at it again. the fact that its still alive with a whole community of people (even making hacks/fangames) doesnt help in forgetting it. combine the last point with more time because you have no kids and your natural passion for it and youre fugged.

I was born in 1993. I remember being too young to remember but watching Pokemon cartoons in the morning before school. I remember being slightly older than seeing people with Gameboy colors and wishing I could play any of those games. I remember Sapphire being my first game I ever owned and being an obsessive fan from that point on. Every game that came out I wanted to play it and beat it. I completely adored Mystery dungeon. Towards the end of high school I got into competitive and that completely sparked an entire new light to my love of the series. I took a break from competitive in my early twenties but as a person in my late 20s I'm more interested to get into competitive than ever, I even signed up for the Pokemon professor judge program. You could say I'm basically Pokemon's perfect golden example of a fanboy that will likely never stop buying games

My grandma bought me my first Pokemon game, Red, when my parents went away on a vacation and I was staying with her for a week. I'd get home from school and play it at her house. She passed away a few years ago, but Pokemon still reminds me of those happy memories I had at her house and sitting out on her front porch poring over the illustrations in the original trainer's guide that came in the box.

I enjoy the games on their own merits as well, but there's also that special connection I have with it that makes me think of her.
