Works the same in doubles, Dondozo spews out the little dude after being KO'd, and you fight it.
Only difference is that another pokémon will be sent out alongside it.

be like the sandy shocks suggestion and pick a mon that's not dead weight in 99% of matchups.

The "problem" with Dondozo is that its not as specialized as Chansey/Blissey (meaning its Sp Def is more serviceable than Blissey's Def), it's not dead weight offensively so it can pull off a curse or assault vest set and Unaware is a sick ability that means you have to break throught with nothing but raw power. It is, of course, balanced by other flaws, but it's definitely a blessing for Dondozo that stuff like Koko and Eleki are not in the game
