Lacking the manes, especially for Leafeon, was a completely boneheaded move. Leafeon also has a lazy fucking name, and didn't need to be a weird location evolution. Aside from that their designs are... OK I guess, but I could do without. Leafeon was the only Eeveelution that felt missing and its design leaves something to be desired.

I think people meme on Gen 4 too hard. The only thing seriously wrong with those things were the superfats like Rhyperior, Magmortar, and Electivire. There were still plenty of good ones.

Not possible. It has a really off-putting dex in my opinion, and the cross gen evos are a big part of that. The designs feel very rough, with many of them trying (and failing) to do something cool in the most surface-level way possible. Some are passible, but even those don’t live up to the originals. Worst part is the actual gameplay design; many of the evos are just straight upgrades, meaning the original has no gameplay value (and very little hope of gaining a buff) if it can’t make practical use of eviolite. Love them or hate them, at least some (all?) of the modern cross evos leave room for the original mon to be useful / different.

Onix, Porygon, and Seadra were awful compared to Steelix, Porygon2, and Kingdra and Chansey was worse until Eviolite. Scyther's a strange case because there is a definite different role since it has different spread with same total, but Steel type being busted didn't help it out. There is little reason to use NFE Pokemon in general.

Misdreavus/Mismagius and Snorunt/Glalie were the biggest missed opportunities for fairy types in gen 6. Snorunt is straight up a Japanese fairy myth, and Glalie takes inspiration from a hannya mask, which they later also incorporated into Grimmsnarl’s design. Meanwhile Misdreavus and Mismagius are themed around muses, witches, and banshees.
