I have no problem with quadrupeds when it actually has a point.

the entire point of venusaur's design is the flower slowly growing on its back, so it being quadruped makes sense to show that off.
the entire point of torterra is the mini ecosystem on its shell, so it being quadruped makes sense to show that off.

samurott and skeledirge being quadruped doesn't benefit either of their designs in any way and just makes them pointlessly awkward since they need to stand for their attacks to even work anyway.

People praise all these things for being clever and interesting but it's really just a mess. They sync well as ideas, sure, but the end design just seems to be doing too much at once. If the skeletal patterns were toned down and the music motif was less overt (like it's known for "haunting melodies" but we never actually see it get on two legs and use a mic to attack), Skeledirge would be a 10/10. But I think all the love it gets is really for it being the better of the 3 starters at first glance, being a quadruped, and just being "different." But to me it just doesn't feel like as cohesive a design. And also doesn't help that Fire/Ghost feels like the new Fire/Fighting

If I were to redesign Skeledirge, I wouldn't do stupid shit like make it bipedal or abandon the idea behind it. I would take the colors off of Skel's head and make the bird Day of the Dead themed. It could've been so cool if they just stuck to two bullet points instead of 8. It's such a mess of a design and the official art makes it look like a dumpy retard. It didn't need to be a ghost type and the whole design screams that they were trying to justify making a fire/ghost starter so it would synergize with the water/fighting and dark/grass type. I wouldn't be surprised if it was designed last.

You're forgetting its suppose to be an alebrije, a spirit animal of the day of the dead that guides the souls to the afterlife. If you want it to have the Fire/Fairy typing, then for Crocalor, remove the whole fire egg sombrero and the skull head motif to begin with but you also have to know that the Day of the Dead is a huge festivity known to mexican culture for years and generations so having that as a motif for Fuecoco/Crocalor/Skeledirge and its typing being Ghost/Fire is very fitting. Also, this marks the first time that a starter Pokemon has an actual symbiosis companion fights alongside it.

Yeah, if anything it's just a bit too busy. Fire bird and day of the dead for a Fire/Ghost with the whole soul idea works just fine without also needing to give it hair or have it sing.

Overall though I do appreciate that there's more variety in the final evos. No matter what sort of starter design you prefer, it's objectively better when the starters go in different directions so people have a more distinct choice.
