Canonically the strongest trainer yet doesn't participate in masters. Can we assume that whole tournament is a marketing fraud?

I'm so sick of TPCI handing out Red Gyarados like it's nothing. Lance was fine, but Lysandre is too much. Not even Lance should've had it. Red Gyarados canonically belongs to Gold and Gold only.

Diantha is constantly paired with Cynthia in M8, unlike Iris (so it's not a female thing), they even battle after the finals. And Alain isn't even a Champion and is still stronger than Iris.
That, plus the fact more than half of the masters use Kalos' gimmick (Ash, Alain, Cynthia, Steven and Diantha) clearly puts Kalos in good light.
And Lysandre dabbed on HALF of the masters 8 (Ash, Alain, Diantha and Steven).

Dude even as a 8yo I thought it was weird that a world class trainer was like 'go on 10yo, catch the rare rabid dragon' just bc mary sue mc. Canonically it makes more sense that he'd take it.
