Although it was a well played strategy, Cynthia used Destiny bond on Pikachu fully aware that he'd have posed a threat for the rest of her team, among all the other entry hazards she used to weaken Ash's team. The battle might not have been as close-called had both of them relied on their team's might alone.

Technically leon used a status condition to beat lucario the thunderbolt paralysed lucario so he couldnt dodge the supereffective flamethrower and for some reason. She wasnt given any super effective moves agaisnt the shilldog....despite having them in previous seasons i wonder why?

Because she’s autistic. Blame the writers for that. It doesn’t mean the writers nerfered her but that she’s a shit trainer. All this tournament proved is that Cynthia was only seen as strong because she fought Elite Four members but once she fought actual Champions she sweated albeit slightly and it wasn’t the usual sweep she had. Anime never said she was this uber strong trainer.

Ultimately everything was written for a narrative purposely but I can easily say she, Ash and Diantha only made it there because of plot and not because of their own attributes. Cynthia being a shit trainer just means the writers intended her to come off that way but that’s because once she won the first round, she became useless and they didn’t care anymore, she’s just fodder for Leon. I respect your opinion and i understand its generally better than headcanon. But i wish this fking meme tournament never happened at all. Should have just let Ash participate in the galar tournament with all the gym leaders at their strongest and have him fight leon in the final bout. I understand the complaints with it. I'm actually not sure if they had planned to retire Ash at the start of JN. The PWC format makes me think they did, however, they also had Ash catch brand new mons instead of using his old ones (which is something they do every new season). Granted, I'm sure you could argue the Pokemon anime isn't meant to be taken that seriously/deep. Does it feel weird that his newest team is that strong? yes, however, the "new 10 year old trainer that becomes the strongest" scenario is a staple in the games.

I think thats my main gripe with it its not a new 10 year old but rather a 25 year old in a 10 year old body. If i was a new ash fan sure i can accept it but i started with os hes still making dumb decisions and using new pokemon when hes old ones carried him through and through heck does everyone forget they already did the leon stoeyline in the orange league with the unbeatable dragonite.
