I rank them fairly highly, top 3 minimum. They work together well as a trio, having a cohesive theme while each is unique one is unique on its own, also they color schemes work together well. . Also, they have just enough anthropomorphism to communicate their theme but not too much to feel uncanny.

Top 3 for me.
Kanto is the best trio, Hisui is second place.
They picked fitting starters to experiment regionals with instead of mascot-like designs that belong in urban setting like Incineroar. If we don't get any more then its cool, as I'm already satisfied with their first attempt

Decidueye could be based off a monk, as it’s the only one with a kasa and is fighting type. The kasa it wears does look more like a Roningasa though

I'd put them near the top honestly, all 3 of them were well liked starters in their own gens, and I prefer their hisuian forms to their base forms. It's one of the few trios in recent years where I like all 3 final forms

No, you're the idiot. H-Samurott is still a samurai, just a more historically accurate Samurai than his original form which is more based on the cleaned up modern interpretation of Samurai. Decidueye is based on Ronin, the straw hat and whole wandering shtick makes it clear. H-Samurott is just the type of Samurai that would use his status to get away with killing whoever he wants.

I can't really bring myself to like any of them, no matter how much I respect what they were going for. The designs are just not there for me
>decidueye is not only a massive change from its unchanged predecessors, but heavily outclassed in-game and built off a starter i'm already pretty meh on. probably my favorite but i'm still meh on it

>typhlosion is uncomfortably humanized compared to original- literally has eyeliner and a necklace, as well as a permanently smug expression that makes it such a definitive personality that it's difficult to imagine as anything else (a large part of what makes me dislike the modern starters). the flames also look fucking terrible no matter what, and we really really don't need this many fire/ghost types
they're a novel concept with good ideas behind them and everything but god the execution is just really bad and I can't get into them

To gush a bit, I really fucking love these 3. They took a lot of designs that I either was meh on or disliked and really gave them all a unique edge that entirely revitalized them for me. I love H-Samurrots new (likely unintentional) wolf-like stance and eerie traditional japanese aesthetic. Decidueye's shorter wings, larger legs, and "straw hat". Typhlosion's slimmer build and peacefully departed expression. I love all of their color scheme and typing's. Typhlosion in particular reminds me a lot of pic related.

It's been a long ass time since I liked starters, let alone all 3 of them. Looking forward to Home for SV so I can build them proper.

I think you're just perceiving it wrong. The hex code for that is #8c5754, which is a pretty firm red color, but it's also affected by the orange sunset lighting to skew it more towards brown than it normally is. The intended color is a dark red on a black shell with an indigo tint.

I've also never been a fan of either brown or red on blue, so it wouldn't change my opinion much
Would've much preferred more white or some kind of greyish-blue-black, darker than the actual shell but light enough to not be totally pitch black
the red nose and iris do a good enough job at adding red highlights that I don't think the shell stuff is really needed, nor looks good

Issue I have is Typhlosion and Samurott were two who arguably most needed ‘fixing’ among starters and they just didn’t do enough. Hardly did anything with Decidueye either desu. I think Fighting and Dark were incredibly boring choices that don’t express much here. Ghost is more fun but it looks more like some furbait than anything interestingly ghostly and cool. All around just a disappointing rework that felt like they were too afraid of radically changing anything to have any ambition.

I want to say they're my favourite trio. They're thematically cohesive without giving up good visuals for the sake of forcing the theme, there's an interesting variety in colour and body shape and Samurott/Typhlosion are two of my favourite mons so no shit getting regional variants for them makes me very happy.
But god damn do I hate both Decidueye.

Think you misunderstand why people don’t like the redesigns. Typhlosion actually got a relatively radical redesign, it’s just really fucking weird looking and gives off some Dino fucker vibes. Samurott always looked like shit. Got a chance to do something interesting and ended up just getting a recolor. So now it looks like shit but has black and red detailing. I see the least push back on Decidueye and I think it’s probably that it strikes a good balance between a cool recolor and significant enough changes to the design. It reads as a different Pokémon where Samurott could pass as a shiny
