It was bold, but that's all it was. It was a shallow idea from, the start, even if they followed through with it to the end it still would have come across as half-baked. Calling into question the morality of a central concept of the franchise is dumb, especially so many years after the fact. Regardless of what the player thinks they still need to catch and battle Pokemon to play the game, so the entire question is moot. If they really wanted to do this concept justice it would need to be done in a game you can beat without battling. Legends was actually kind of close to this.

The story is meh and people praise it like a masterpiece when there are better stories in other games but that's not what I really hate, what I hate is the state of the online in the 4th/5th gen, this game started being a serious game when they introduced fairy type

They also started the trend of:

They're OK to play through as stand-alone games but they were a step down from Platinum/HGSS which endeavoured to give players as complete an experience as possible

Zoomers who say that Gen V was the peak of the series don't know what they're talking about

I agree with you but come on, half of the features removed were completely superfluous and didn't add anything to the game.

My biggest gripe with gen 5 are as you mentioned GL having 3 mons and E4 4.

However I do think that gameplay-wise gen 5 is great, adding good new mons and good progression, especially compared with the following gens and it does have improvements over gen 4 in that regard too (coming from a johtofag)

The goal isn’t just ending Pokémon battling it’s about the full separation of people and Pokémon. Something the games put an emphasis on as being impossible and against the natural state of the world. Of course you’d think it’s surface level for falling for the lie the game tells you is a lie from the start.

/vp/ is full of contrarians and children that struggle with the idea that B/W/2 removed features because the development time was focused on new features, sprite animation, the first real story in the franchise, etc. This is a forum full of absolutists, and gen 5 (ironically for a game about choosing a hardline philosophical stance) is one of the most nuanced games in the franchise that defies absolute definitions.

Pokestar is genuinely one of the worst things ever and grinds BW2 to a screeching halt and forces you to do a stupid minigame that sucks dick and slows your progress because gen 5 likes to storyshit.

Pokemon should go back to the way gen 1 did things and make the story barebones as fuck and put a focus on open world adventuring.
