The games are handholdy as hell but that doesn't stop them from being my favorite.
The anime was top-tier and I miss it.
I can't wait for an eventual remake like a decade from now (if GF can get their shit together that is)

i have the feeling GF will only include what's in the alola dex and just leave out the transfer exclusive mons even though you could catch them in the original game

It's got a great dex, characters and region. Honestly the first time I can say I've actually cared about the human characters in a pokemon game.

The abundant handholding and cutscenes ruin everything though, they're that bad. I'd never replay it.

Me too. I've been playing Ultra Moon for the first time after not touching Gen 7 since 2017. It's not so bad. Kinda challenging at the beginning.

Are there any newly added Pokémon to the region that I should be looking out for? Caught a Bagon somewhat early, so I wonder if there's anything else that's cool to use.

There are a decent number of older mons that are early and you might've missed in other games:
>Hawlucha: route 3
>Flabebe: Melemele meadow
>Inkay: Route 1 beach
>Zorua: Hau' Oli city
>Noibat: Verdant Cavern
>Carbink: Ten Karat Hill

Also Alola mons moved
>Crabrawler: route 2, now evolves earlier
>Grubbin: Route 1, now evolves earlier

Also also, look into Island Scan (pic related. Delphox is also on Poni. Couldn't fit on screen

that's for SM, not USUM
Misdreavus and Murkrow swap places. Misdreavus used to be early game but then became post game. instead it's Murkrow that you can catch in Hau'oli Cemetery

Yes but it is heavily modified. They went from chibi model and grid movement to full models and free movement. In battles they also got rid of the patch the pokemon stand on and opened the entire field while also adding the player's model. All it cost them was getting rid of 3D and the framerate going to shit when more than one pokemon is on the battle screen. I think it was a worthwhile sacrifice and the game looks great. Running around a bend, being in the battle with your pokemon, and seeing all the characters was very relaxing.

The two biggest problems they had were being jewish by selling the incomplete version and the cutscenes. Otherwise, I had a ton of fun with it.

I don't mind it since I love all the characters but I can see how it's annoying for most people. I find it all very relaxing. It's the only pokemon game I actually role play and pretend to be part of the story instead of just playing a video game.
