The problem isn't the scavenger hunt, it's that the render distance is so poor you could fly right over one and not notice it. You have to be within like 30 feet to even see the stupid things.

In contrast you could spot the spiritomb glints from a mile away.

The quantity and quality of US/UMs post game is beyond SV in everyway.

We live in an era more awash in easily available video games, both distribution and cost wise, and as such kids don't have to wring every bit of value out of the few games they have anymore. All the Frontier/their equivalents did was gatekeep items for competitive and now that GF is fully embracing that side of the Pokemon experience by giving you everything you could want in maingame, it's just unnecessary.
