>>53238065SwSh didn't.
The games themselves didn't.
Masuda did and we helped.
Masuda was the one who ran GF into the dirt with near yearly releases, really tone deaf and industry blind creative decisions and his refusal to allow the games to live up to their full potential. It's under him we got the bare-minimum bullshit every 3 years formula with the actual competent devs having to finish his (and now Ohmori/Masuda Jr) work for him.
And we helped. Everytime we bought the first version instead of holding off for the expansion? Every time we blindly bought into the nostalgia? Every time we made sure these games sold around 10m copies apiece? We all fucking helped. Facilitating Pokemania 2.0 and assuring GF that they can do whatever the fuck they want to nickel and dime us and as long as its nostalgic enough we'll eat it all up with Go and SM and proceeding to make sure that SwSh, a game that actively cuts content and corners while providing nothing to make up for it, were the best selling pair of games since GS certainly didn't send the right message.
This is the price we pay for mindless consuming. And it will only continue because there plenty more younger and impressionable fans to be brought into the fold and preyed upon, to say nothing of the people prepared to lower their standards just because the Pokemon logo is on the box.
