Sadly, the route OP posted is as "complex" as it gets from XY going forward... ah who am I kidding, the series has never been known for making their core audience use their brains. At best it confuses and pushes them to ask their parents to do it for them. Kids today should be encouraged to play Mario or Zelda instead.
