To answer your question, there's nothing wrong with diversity when it doesn't fundamentally impact the story or game. For example, this episode was fine and a good example of diversity. It presented us with good, well designed varied characters that are memorable and not solely about their background/skin colour.
A bad example would be SV. The masculine feminine trainers are everywhere, trainers are just palette swaps, there's hardly anything spainish related.. It's clear it was to please a certain group. Good examples in SV would be the language teacher and Raifort. Memorably characters but we're not hit over the head with their skin colour or political beliefs.
