Everything takes forever in Gen 5.
Out of the top 22 latest to evolve Pokemon in the entire franchise, 10 belong to Unova, almost half. Why the fuck does an ice cream need to get to level 47, Yankee Magneton in the 50s, American Fearow needs to be a higher level than half the gen's pseudo-legend Dragons. What the heck

This really doesn't get complained about enough. BW1 has more postgame-only Pokemon than original GSC and like a third of the dex is still first-stage at the 8th gym
It's not even a balance thing either, super shitmons like Deerling evolve later than starter final stages while actual broken Pokemon like Drilbur are caught at the beginning of the game and evolve early

They went full retard for sure when making everything evolve based on when you caught them. I will say though that Dragalge evo level is probably the dumbest fucking thing, it has no extra bst over its counterpart Clawitzer yet evolves way fucking later all because it's a dragon.

Even krookodile at 40 seems pretty high. Way too many mons evolve after L36 in this game.
Could have really benefitted from ORAS being in this gen instead of the next one.

Really, BW1 feels kind of awkward in a lot of ways. You don't get many good options until the desert, then most things after the desert aren't worth using. That fucking desert houses so much good shit for no reason.

I agree that mons evolving past the E4 is retarded but complaining about mons evolving late in general in BW is even more retarded.
They were balanced around the level you caught them at, usually taking at least several levels to evolve. I like this, it forces players to actually use each mon's stage. Trying to make first stage mons work in the late game is a nice challenge. Stuff like Kinklang, Vanilluxe, etc evolving as late as they do makes sense. If you ask me, every pokemon game should distrubute it's evo levels so that all pokemon evolve before the e4, but up until then it's fair game. Literally just scale back the 50+ evos to evolve at like 45-50 and it's a-ok in my opinion.

That’s what happens you make a retarded linear as fuck game in a series that was initially designed around being not that. In Gen 1 nothing evolves overly late except Dragonair because you catch practically every Pokemon in the game by the 4th gym.

You're ignoring the context that the NFEs are given to you at high levels. Unova's mon distribution was built hand in hand with B/W's level curve so by the time you got them in that game you only had a short run until they evolved proper.

That’s not an issue if the levels of the game itself are actually designed around it. BW’s problem is that many of the lategame mons evolve in the 50s and yet the final boss is only 54. Shit like Pawniard are designed better for XY, where you capture them at the high 30s/low 40s in the late game, and you end up in the high 60s for the league.

Noibat in XY pretty much evolves as soon as you capture it, and Noivern is pretty good. It should have been obtainable in an earlier cave and should have had a middle stage though. It goes from Zubat BST straight to Crobat, so there’s no real point to having Noibat so late, or Noivern such a late evolution, which fucks it over in USUM when you actually get Noibat early. It’s not really designed around *either* dex it’s in, since the first stage is pointless in XY and is literally too weak for most of USUM. It needed a Golbat equivalent.
