Kalos was a fever dream. They made the mistake of giving Exp Share but taking away the gen 5 Exp yield. I'm glad they fixed it in gen 7 and onwards.

Even Elesa can manage the desert ground types if you're not careful.

That's not even the worst offender of this. The absolute worst offender of this is unironically the first games

Which makes Brock funny. In Gen 1, Charmander's best option is to just keep attacking with Ember despite being resisted since everything else available is shit and Geodude/Onix only have normal-type damage and bad Special.
Of course for LGFR you have both ways in adding better options and Onix knowing Rock Tomb.

I have no idea why they used fossils for the third gym instead of Darumaka. You can't even get the fossils until after you defeat Burgh. And he still has Dwebble for fire types.
The point isn't "the type has a weakness", it's "the gym leader does not account for that weakness".
