It's lost in time now, but I remember he was also one of the generation 5 pokemon that got a lot of hate during its initial reception. Personally, I still don't really like it very much. Whenever I look at the Sugimori art, it reminds of another series and feels offputting somehow.

I think he's awesome and he's one of my favorite pokemon. Unfortunately the switch to 3D wasn't kind to him. I think they struggled to make him move around in a way that doesn't look silly. I wish they had him levitate around or even just hop around in the sarcophagus, and only bring out his hands when he's attacking. Having him use his hands to move has always looked ridiculous imo
