there are thousands of fakemon that could easily pass as official mons without anyone batting an eye, especially nowadays with newer generations having a significantly higher amount of experimental designs that deviate from a lot of standard conventions.
the only people that claim otherwise have a confirmation bias based on the fact they already know what designs are and aren't pokemon. as such you can see them eat their words pretty much every single time an official mon gets leaked early.

Pretty much. You just have to make it look presentable enough and people fall for it. When you say its explicitly a fakemon then the internal biases start. I think you get the most honest opinions whenever a pokemon is leaked to the point where its believable but not outright confirmed. I remember when Skeledirge dropped early and /vp/ was split in two over it.

While I don't dislike modern designs, we're so far beyond any sort of consistency that several of these designs look more like Pokemon than actual ones. That's a little sad.
