I really dislike how the affection mechanic has been tied to interacting with pokemon. I enjoyed pokemon refresh in gen 7, but I couldn't use it because then my pokemon would start getting bullshit buffs like ignoring OHKOs or curing status.

Its always super frustrating. Maybe if the games were a bit harder and balanced around it it could be fun. So not interacting with your pokemon felt more like a challenge run and not a bare minimum to ever have any chance of losing a battle.
