Decidueye gets destroyed in fucking Alola, you stupid cunt and was garbage in comp to boot, to the point owlkeks kept trying to force a meme of Long Reach having a secondary effect because it was otherwise functionally useless as an ability and a joke compared to Incieroar's Intimidate (which hadn't been nerfed at that stage). Primarina was the best pick for single player in Gen 7, Incineroar was the comp star, the owl was an also-ran once again.

I like Decidueye’s design the most of the three, but you hit the nail on the head. It really does get destroyed by all the dark types in Alola, where they’re super common compared to other games. Incineroar is slow too, but it’s bulky and resists their attacks. Meanwhile Primarina, while comparable in bulk to Decidueye (still better though), has a much better defensive typing and hits like a nuclear warhead.

Nope. I started with Yellow and Hoenn was actually my least played gen. But all three of the starters have great designs and they also have good gameplay design (sceptile after the split ofc). Fire Fighting is a broken combo as discovered with Blaziken and why there are 3 more fire fighting starters, especially with speed boost. Swampert has a clearly broken typing and good moveset. Sceptile being only grass kind of sucks, but it makes up for it later on and Grass Dragon Mega is cool.
