I was mostly shitposting. My main problem with it is that I can’t separate the execution from the intended mechanics of the design, and I don’t feel like I should have to in order to appreciate it. If they insist on telling me a pokemon can do something, I should really be able to intuitively envision it doing that thing. Doesn’t help that Samurott comes across kind of goofy, in general. Feels like they were really close to something good, but I think I’ll always view it as a missed opportunity.

I don’t know if I’d choose this hill to die on. Diggersby is a little ugly, but the design is easy to understand. Pulls off the construction worker theme better than Rhyperior, at least. Excadrill is a weird hunchback mole at first glance, and he’s just as ugly as Diggersby.

You can't have every pokemon as no 1. I would rather have a lot of pokemon that I enjoy to some extent. It's hard to pick a favorite too. But some of them are just shitty.
Some of the most popular, 'no. 1' picks are starters. And it's obviously not because of their design... It's because it's the pokemon that stays with you through the whole game. So not all popularity comes from appearance.

I actually do like Fearow a lot and would use it over Pidgeot every time, but yeah, when it comes down to it, it was just a foddermon even it's debut game to the vast majority of people. Especially since Pidgeot was THE gen 1 bird. And there have been so many other birds since then that it's even more pronounced now.
