Additionally, they don't own homes! They rent them from the government! There is no such thing as private property in China! At least in the US, you can claim we have it in spite of taxes because if you remove our taxes, our land doesn't go back to the government after we die.
I can agree with the difference between how we treat our homes though, but the problem is that it's a cultural thing.
Mass transit is not a basic essential component of society. We know this because nations have lasted centuries without them, even into the modern era.
Rentiers are not the culmination of capitalist competition either. Most rentiers are those who have two or more homes, and want a secondary source of income. They're not corporate entities, they're just people who have the assets to spend like this.
