I had this idea for a gimmick called "type mastery"
Basically pokemon can learn moves they normally shouldn't by fighting pokemon of certain types (eg. Pikachu can learn venoshock by fighting Crobat, tentacruel and muk). Once the type mastery gauge is filled, they can learn the move, some pokemon may even evolve into different pokemon by mastering certain types
