Literally this. You build a nice collection and profit on top of it to buy into bigger cards. I've been buying CZ pikachus for two weeks now plus a couple art cards I personally like. Betting on the pikachus going up in price, mostly because the only other alternative is the Japanese version that's literally 400+ dollars and I don't think CZ will get enough restocks to warrant a price drop

Seriously you need to get some ultra pro one touch holders, your arcanines would look great in it. Definitely better than toploaders. (35pt. holders are ideal for pokemon cards but you'll need perfect fits to sleeve your cards never put them raw in a one touch)

It's the lighting cranking the shit out of the ISO, not the phone. I'd turn the overheads on, but they just cause glare and I pulled most of the bulbs out because they're incandescent UV emitting.

The ones above you (>>53734180 >>53734168 >>53734155 and similar) make me laugh because it's just the only place they can store dozens of boxes they don't care about and then just call it a "display" to make it not seem like this is the only place they can store their stuff. You can tell because that one display case has a box just lying on top of it because there is nowhere else to put it, lol.

I have always liked eeveelutions, but I'm 34 so Gen 1/2 was my childhood and Umbreon/Flareon were always my personal favorites in the games. I also collect Arcanine, Pikachu, Gyarados, Haunter/Gengar, and a few others a bit more.

What is up with the Lugia alt art price? Like I know it's not cheap but why is Lugia under 200 while Giratini is pushing 300+ and never fell under the 200 mark. Doesn't really make sense when you consider that both are popular legendary's, both are meta in the actual card game, and both have gorgeous art. Are the pull rates in lost origin and silver tempest really that different?

Yes. Even anecdotally, I opened about the same amount of packs from both ST and LO and pulled 3 Lugias and no Giratinas

I think people just liked the card design a lot and it just stuck, unlike Lugia's card which is a stinker in comparison to other alt arts.

Doesn't matter. You can like the pokemon the most of any, but that doesn't change that it has never been a popular legendary. It's mid-tier popularity at best, above things like phione, but below the titans of the series.

I have played against thousands of giratina/lost box decks, I have never ever seen a lugia v in any deck. Remember there is a game attached to this that influences the price of the secondary market just as much as collectors.

Yeah, I think Giratina has a bit more of a 'wow' factor to its art that gave it a push. Lugia's is cool, but Giratina's just has that more abstract angle that I think is more appealing to people. And that little edge is enough to kick investors into fueling the price further. That damn card haunts me. It's the big one I still need for my V collection.

Do you really think that the vast majority of players, who all are well aware of the collectability and price charts of these alt arts, are going buy 4 copies just to damage them by shuffling them in a deck? I'm taking from years of experience playing physical mtg and yugioh & yes that's the whole point of having a blinged deck - people know how much the cards are worth - so not only can you flex on how good you are at the game, but you also have the 'best' version of the cards. It happened in mtg with expedition cards & full art lands, yugioh with ghost rares, etc etc, the fact they make so many golden supporter cards is testament to this.
The current price of klefki and gardevoir ex are also reflected in this - collectors don't give a fuck about klefki. Idk who bou is.

151 is shaping up to be a really solid set.
My couple gripes with it, is the trainer cards include items not set in generation one. Further to that each kanto gym leader, oak, red, blue, and elite 4 should have been trainer cards.

Same reason any card is cheaper than a card of equal or lower rarity. People just don't like it as much. Giratina has some sweet art, and I think the fact that it's Gengar's regional gimmick form rather than its normal form deals a blow to it. That being said, nearly 190$ is nothing to shrug off.

Should I collect?
I started again last year, bought maybe 20 booster packs over the course of a few months. Was my only bright spot in life. Bought a bunch of commons on tcgplayer.
I like collecting and checking the boxes on my excel sheets. The cards look so gay though. And expensive too. I feel it's taking advantage of my autism.

To answer your question, do you enjoy collecting? Does it bring you personal fulfillment? If so, then the answer is yes. You don't have to collect all the high-end cards, you don't have to spend thousands of dollars on packs. You should cherish your collection, no matter how small or big it might be. Don't let other people bring you down, just do whatever you enjoy in life, even if that means collecting a bunch of Surskit cards.

I dunno what to tell you. I definitely understand the autistic pleasure of checking off lists, but I also like to admire the cards I collect. Are there any sets/subsets you DON'T think look gay? Maybe just focus on collecting a category you like. Sometimes I just binge out on stuff and then feel disgusted by it afterwards. You know that feeling? Most people associate it with porn or eating but I feel that way about cards or video games sometimes too.
I like it when the pictures look hand drawn. They do it sometimes with the newer cards, but other times the pictures look really shitty and plasticy.
I wish they'd take their time and not release so much stuff. They cram a lot of different art styles into each set. I thought it would be cool if they did entire sets in a single art style, and actually let a set have an identity, but I guess that might be too divisive for people who didn't like the style.

Anyway, it sounds like you just don't like the cg stuff that studios like 5ban produce. I know it doesn't really scratch that same checklist itch as collecting a set, but you could always focus more on specific cards. For example you could try and only collect the Secret Illustration Rares and Secret Artist Rares from the Scarlet/Violet era. Ugly cg cards would be pretty rare among those cards.

As a kid I was only familiar with gen 1-3 so those are the only pokemon cards I collect and pick up from modern sets. I mostly focus on art I like between e-reader and ex era. This cards will never be worth anything but I personally love looking at them, even though it's a big incohesive mess put together

idk, it is off center. maybe the weird case? I was scared to take it out for a long time because it's such a tight fit around the edges and has multiple clasps, so it wants to snap back together when you try to open it. finally just ripped it all at once and got it out, it's in a toploader now
