Why doesn't gamefreak drop all the shitty gimmicks that get abandoned after one game, and instead expand on Mega Evolutions?

It is the best feature in the franchise, there are big oportunities for new cool designs, it makes weak/outdated pokemon relevant again, and it would honestry take less developing time for a better result compared to shit like terrastalize or Gigantamax.
