The human brain honestly just isn't designed to handle imaginary characters in a healthy way. If you have a crush on a person as a kid, eventually it fades because the less time you spend with someone the less you think about them, until it becomes nothing more than memories.
With imaginary characters, they're always there, never changing. No matter how much time has passed, you can experience them exactly as they were when you first encountered them. And our brains can't recognize that they aren't real people.
I wouldn't be surprised if this was the cause for the massive rise in behavioral issues and inability to socialize seen in so many people under 30 years old. The increased usage of the internet has led to immensely increased contact with fictional media, inadvertently training our brains to think of real people the same way we do the imaginary characters.
I understand now. In order to save humanity, to change it back from the isolated zombie it is rapidly becoming, we need to destroy the internet. Otherwise, it's only going to continue getting worse.
