The simplest of these is having a champion and a team leader actually fight. We don't need to fight team leaders 3 or 4 times throughout the games; let the players deal with increasingly dangerous problems while the champions make sure towns aren't nuked and the team leaders can't go around completely unopposed.
Gen 8's issues go deeper than just "it doesn't let the player do anything", because it fundamentally fails to even establish Rose as a threat anywhere before the last fucking fight of the game.
he "rampaging Dynamax" pokemon isn't even a good explanation in-lore, because you could just as easily have Leon cover half of them (the areas you haven't been to yet) while having) while having the player deal with the other half (the areas you HAVE been in).
