Also, just play Yellow, Red, or FireRed if you want nostalgia.

LGPE is literally just gen1 but slightly different. FRLG is still the better gen1 experience.

If you want a good recent game, there's legends arceus. LGPE and BDSP are closer to "classic" pokemon but mostly because they're just the original games but slightly adapted.

Gameplay was fairly different but the core experience remains. Only real difference between LGPE and other Gen I games is you don't battle wild pokemon. I find it a super comfy experience.
