Someone explain why the discussion regarding the Pokemon anime on the internet has dwindled when looking at all possible metrics - social media, forums, google trends, etc.

I don't know what you're on about with the so-called "metrics" but the show is doing fine.

Cutting out the nostalgia factor is of course putting some dent on the activity but otherwise it's keeping a graduate number online. Sango's debut literally exploded big time until the next Pokemon Presents and today's episode is also having a staying force. There is also a decent sized chunk waiting for the dub for whatever reasons possible.

As to this place, the last few replies in the last thread explain a good chunk of as to why it's so fluxerating on this site.

Horizons isn't by all means bad, but considering the circumstances surrounding it, it's gonna be considered a black sheep dependent on the follow up to it near the end of the Gen 9 cycle.

I mean shit, MPM was being extremely mid or meh. Galar got shafted and has to get rectified in the follow up somewhat. A 3 week break followed by an Production blunder plus OLM's PR being a mixed bag.

For all intention and purposes, Horizons is doing a good job in its country. But the rest is probably one of the bigger eggshells online to tread on.

All of those things are now gone so you're going to have growing pains with a new series. As long as they keep the story interesting and building up to big payoffs, it'll find success. The anime is a marathon, not a race. As we've seen many times in the past, the Pokemon franchise is able to catch lightning in a bottle more than once. It only takes one or a few pivotal moments to captivate new audiences.

If you want something close to Horizons in story, DPPT absolutely. Well-balanced arc with a cute trio and dynamic between them. It has good pacing and does well with both cutesy adventuring moments and serious moments when dealing with Team Galactic or character drama.

RGB is obviously the starting point for PokeSpe if you want to read them all in order. It's got some of the best battles and MATO's art, but has clusterfuck plot points and world building.

RS is popular for its romance arc. If you've read something like Kengan Omega, it has the same type of style of writing that sacrifices coherent plot and sensible characters for exciting and controversial writing. A combination of shoujo romance, Yamamoto's unclean art and big shots of Kaiju-inspired scenes, and telenovela melodrama, and it's fun even if it isn't always good.

BW is cool. Black's a good protagonist, even if a bit basic. Decent plot that hits most of the emotional highs it tries to build up, but the middle part of the story is really disappointing. Sucks that BW2 shit the bed, with BW's ending setting the standard high.

It can go either way, as far as being a stream mascot for Dot goes all 3 stages of the line fit for it so that's not a problem

Dawn's cameo in BW was fun and better than I'd expected. I'm glad she got her spotlight to show of a dynamic with the new characters and Cynthia, even if the Junior Cup was far weaker than the Don George tournaments. I get why her fans are disappointed in what seems like a lack of development. Unlike Misty and May, she didn't get any sort of wardrobe upgrade, or even a new 'mon like Misty's Gyarados or May's evolved Venasaur/Glaceon. It's a shame they blew her getting her Platinum outfit mid-DP.

Trip is bewildering. He started out as an asshole with a camera who beat Ash occasionally, and then went about fifty episodes unable to win anything. Now he's defeated everyone without getting hit, only to job hard to Alder. What mysterious Ultra Divine Water did he drink off camera to completely reverse his fortunes, and now that he's faced Alder, what exactly is his purpose, other than to be the guy that Ash has to beat at the League to complete his pseudo-arc before losing?

Ok, I think everyone here needs to understand a few things when it comes to anime. HZ is going well. it's by no means doing bad at all. That being said when it comes to online discussions it will always fall behind that of the Ash anime. The reason behind this is that Ash's anime has 25 Years of content behind it. there is not enough content for Horizons to carry the long-term discussions that people are used to, that be either here, on forums, or on Twitter, or more mainstream sources. As HZ progresses and gets more content its discussions will become longer and more common.

I did a quick look through which ones did.
>24, a team rocket and goh episode where Goh catches a giant magikarp
>27, the Leon vs Raihan battle
>43, goh dynamaxes raboot
>47, Goh wins the Pokémon Grand Eating Contest
>75, Goh meets Dawn and protect cresselia with darkrai
>105, Serena and Chloe episode
>111, Lillie and Gladion reunite with Mohn and catch a shiny nihilego
>132, Pikachu beats Leon and Ash begins his retirement
So only 8 JN episodes managed to match or do better than this generic Horizons episode

lmao, /padt/ has always been this dead outside of the season finales. JN was crickets until the Masters 8 happened, literally nobody cared about SM, XY ""discussion"" was carried entirely by Serenakeks, and BW/DP/AG/GS may as well have not happened when it comes to "discussion".

I'm enjoying the show but not shit I think Roy is kind of carrying right now. I'm more interested in his goal of catching fug, and beating Captain Pikachu. while Liko feels like she's just there to move the plot because of the Pendant which in my opinion is just not handled well.

It also doesn't help that the Pendant is basically used to get Liko out of a jam no matter what happens. Like she's basically untouchable especially when she has a Ancient Pokeball with a Titan Pokemon to fuck shit up

The housewife memes are hilarious and people should keep posting them. But the fact that they are being made is indicative of a problem with how they're writing Liko so far. I hope that changes in the next arc, with the Hatenna and the next Explorers battle.

Man they really rushed through Serena's arc didn't they? I'm already at the showcase Master Class when I just saw her get her third key only a few eps ago. Also how does any of this make sense, since Shauna, Millefeui, the fat female rival and even Jessie somehow also got all 3 keys off-screen when they were all down a key just previously? How the hell did Jessie especially get two princess keys completely off-screen when they were just in the ep Noibat evolved 2 eps before this?

The writers really did not pace the showcase arc well at all. It started too late into XY, and then they rush through it in about a year way before Ash even gets his 8th Badge...so the whole tail-end of XY focuses entirely on Ash again, the Greninja stuff and then the league and Flare arc. I like Serena but you can tell the writers had no idea what they were doing here.

Seriously if they did this to May or Dawn I would have been pissed back in the day.

If anything, ironically enough, right now the Ashime is getting more genuine discussion than it ever did before. Recap anons are bringing actual discussion of the shows up. The closest we had to this was MPM with Brockschizo, but he was being drowned out hard by shipfags and luis/famon throwing shitfits.

I was fine with everyone except Jessie. Shauna and Miette make sense. They've both been on the trail for a while, and they appear sporadically enough that it's plausible. I'm glad in a way that I started with XY for this reason. I figured Serena's plotline was typical and I was able to enjoy it in the moment. Going to AG and DP and seeing how an actual female co-protagonist was handled soured me a bit. It made me appreciate why all the long time posters here praised DP so much; even Jessie made sense as a Coordinator.

The problem with the Pendant Mystery Box is that there isn't that much mystery behind it with all the context clues we've been given, and we'll probably know the full story once the DLC comes out.

That said, if I were to compare it to another recent Kodomo anime that run purely on openly ajar'd mystery box, I would still say I like 23 (for now). Unlike that other Kodomomon show, at least there has been more to it that the mystery. Riko seems to be developing as a character. The chemistry between the characters seem much better.

That and all the showcases are just 1 ep each since they don't have to write any battle rounds so it's essentially just two appeal rounds of a contest in 1 episode and they're done.

Meanwhile even in AG, May's Contests got the exact same screentime as Ash's Gyms/Frontier Brain battles. May competed in 15 Contests in AG, and Ash had 15 Gyms/Brain battles with both of them added together.

The shading/artwork in the showcase eps looks really good, Serena looks like a teenager rather than a 10 year old. All the girls are designed to wear sexy outfits, Elle basically looks like a character from some magical girl anime. It's really strange the writers got away with this, the only concept of showcases is so....unlike Pokemon.

Anyways, I skimmed through the video so I could respond to your bait post.

He isn't saying Horizon's is failing. At 6:30 he even admits that Horizons is consistently hitting the top 10 anime in Japan, stating that even "show stopping episodes like the Ash vs Leon finale" failed to achieve what Horizons casually does. "In fact, the only episode to make the top 5 in recent years was the final episode of the 11th and final episode of Mezase Pokemon Master". He goes on to list the amount of times Horizons(at the time of him posting that video) had reached the top 10, and compared it to how many times Journeys reached the top 10 within the same timeframe. He's repeatedly saying how Horizons is hitting higher rankings than Pokemon Journeys and is a good show. This is anything but a doompost, it's a clickbait and hidden redpill for Ashfags.
He brings up valid criticism, like Liko lacking a goal and Roy not tackling a concrete gym circuit which keeps viewers from comparing the anime's progress to their own game's progress. But never does he say Horizon's is a bad show that is underperforming.

I hope you're just baiting for (you)s and not actually an Ashfag hoping this supported your delusions. I would have even suspected you of being the youtuber himself trying to shill his video if not for the fact it was posted 2 weeks ago.

You know I just realized after watching XY that the Giovanni boss fantasies never returned. Obviously they stopped during BW because TR was serious for the first half of the saga, but in Declora's Island they didn't return. Now in XY when TR are spying on a pokemon to steal, Meowth doesn't come up with a fantasy anymore. They stopped somewhere around the final DP filler or so.

I though they were VERY overused in AG and DP so I don't miss them, but it's kinda funny how the writers didn't bring them back even when TR returned to their comical selves. The Giovanni boss fantasies started around late Johto and went on through all of AG and DP.

Well, I've gone through quite a bit of BW while waiting for subs this evening. The final Team Rocket plan as part of the Meloetta arc was kind of off putting. It seemed like the plot of one of the movies, although not one of the better ones. Turning Giovanni into an actual super villain as opposed to the leader of a crime syndicate. Controlling Mewtwo made sense for the task of building his empire; converting the genies into their therian forms less so. I wish they had continued on as the TRio doing heists rather than going through the motions of unlocking the ancient legendary Pokemon, blah, blah.

Iris' backstory arc was much more my speed. I wish they had put part of it about fifty episodes earlier. Better late than never though. Giving her the Gym Leader role as a goal to aspire to would've given her a bit more direction in the middle of the Gym challenges, plus it would've further cemented her as a new-Misty rather than a May or Dawn. Well, knowing now what we know about where she ends up makes this turn all the more interesting anyways.

On the crossdressing episode: The only thing I was thinking of the whole time was why Cilan was so shy. He'd already dressed in drag as Elesa, and he fucking rocked it. Add Crossdressing Connoisseur to his list of titles.

This episode was great, I kind of expected it to be more boring, but I loved how they name-dropped the title and finally explained the reason for it - not only for Friede and Cap'n, but also what Liko, Roy, and Dot are getting into and will expanding their own horizons. Starting off with the leads doing their own Gurumin intro and having the main theme play at the end was a double shot of kino.

The next episode seems to be for Murdock, but it seems kind of filler looking compared to seeing Friede/Pikachu's backstories so I hope it's nice. I see Sprig making more than "generic cat face" so I hope there's some humor involved for her.

I wanna talk more about the new episode and less about cum-for-brains' delusional reimagining of the current anime.

They just casually dropped so much info throughout the episode. Orio and Friede are childhood friends, thereby giving her a retroactive headstart in the Friedebowl. They're both from Kanto, and Friede evidently stayed there while Orio moved to Hoenn for work. Which leads me to pic related. Literally one shot of Slateport, but you can immediately tell it's Slateport. Horizons so far has done a really good job of making these cities look recognizably like their counterparts in the games. I don't need a 1-for-1 remake of game cities to satiate my need for LORE, but the fact that they seem to be giving that much attention to their depiction over portraying them as interchangeable places is a lot of effort that isn't needed, but much appreciated.

It's been a nice touch overall for the portrayal of the adults, you're right on that. I was sold on the depiction of the locations in episode 9 when they framed the Academy, even adding as much as some green to where usually would've been meek brown. Chapter 18 is a good one for sure.
I liked the swap up in teams between Red and Blue. Seeing both of them going over their quirks with their methods and influencing each other's team was something I felt could've been applied more frequently in the anime outside of maybe getting inspired for a custom move or just learning a move from someone else.

Her asking Red to catch an Eevee as her condition reminded me a tiny bit of the challenges in SM onward for the main battles. But the execution on Eevee (or Vee as nicknamed) being able to seemingly painfully transmorgify into his 3 Gen 1 forms over a chip added a good amount of gravity to the capability of PokeSpe's TR after seeing the "doping" syringe while having it's core advantage be centered around the ears sensing the Pokemon type of all things. Last part aside, I like Vee a fair amount right from the getgo. Looking forward to how Red will resolve this one.

Red still showing off his temper for Vee and refusing to take the badge out of principle from what he assumed an criminal is somewhat similar to Origins Red refusing to take the Badge from an crime syndicate leader, might or might not be taken out of this one since both share the connection of TR. His last ditch effort for Vee's sake blending in with Erika's revelations and declaration of support for Red worked well together.

Honestly suprised to see Substitute getting used this early as opposed to the anime where it took until the 11th Movie with Shaymin to be used. Neat to know that it took from the 63th BW episode with the trade evolution until Episode 10 of Horizons with Brassius and his Sudowoodo, skipping XY to JN. Weird.

Anime Contest are divided in two round, appeal and battle. First you compete in Appeal round by showing off attack to three judges that rate your attack and qualify you for the next round which happen to be a 5-minute battle with a set point that decreases if your opponent show off better attack than you. The one with the most point left becomes the winner.

Showcase is just the appeal round of a contest where audience votes for you. However it means the one with the most fans will always win regardless the performance.

I loved the new episode, man. The cast of the Rising Voltacklers grows on me more and more every time I see them, I can't wait to get more episodes centered on them. And they make the world feel so alive. They didn't need to make Orio go to Hoenn for a while, because it's just a detail that probably will not be mentioned again, but moving is something that people do and it makes the world feel a lot more dynamic rather than just "this character is from this region. this is from this region."

Chapter 23 and I am witnessing the first evidences of Giovanni who did nothing wrong.
I like Kusaka's facial expressions on that gentleman to highlight some sort of double persona which totally isn't a evil bad guy. He was paying good attention to that boy putting out some flames. Sand Attack was surprising to me in it's utility but makes the "low-level" mons more relevant in a tense situation. Pretty brutal of that Cloyster to finish off two magmars but I love death to certain Pokemon.

I like the trade between Misty and Red regarding their Water Pokemon after HM Surf got destroyed. If she doesn't evolve it, someone's gonna get a stone thrown at their shillzards.
Vee continues to be my favorite Pokemon so far despite its spare appearances. Using the common pain caused by TR to relate to Misty's Gyarados before the rest of Red's team started to shape up. A solid pay off depsite the Ice bird getting away.

I like the fraction dispute being set up between Gym Leaders, with one half operating for TR. Although Morality isn't high enough there for Blaine's taste. Rapidash was honestly pretty cool in the Anime and in the Manga.

All of the Team Rocket Gym Leaders fit well as Team Rocket executives. I liked Lt. Surge the most, as you'll soon see why, but Sabrina's prowess with psychic powers is really creative. I liked the RGB arc a lot for details like that.

Chapter 30: vs Zapdos. Might put in a break in here for today and pick it up tomorrow. But so far I have enjoyed RGB despite it still being more of a testing field for Kusaka than anything else just yet.
Just as I wondered where Green might have been despite her harlot attitude, there she goes sneaking off like that for her own personal gain, only to get tricked into seeing that one tower from Johto, so I can assume that Kusaka already has intertwining plans for Green and the follow up in GSC. Red's trickery to defeat Surge was pretty basado.
I would recommend anyone who has the time on their hand and is open-minded to a different exploration of a pokemon world to give Pokespe or atleast the first arc, a go. To atleast broaden your perspective on how a story within those worlds can be unfolded. Might change my mind tomorrow but it's been if anything a good exploration to keep digging through old pointers and differences in a Pokemon media.

You can't go wrong with having Lt. Surge covering himself with Magnetons to create a disruptive forcefield by spamming Sonic Boom while he starts laying down automatic fire from a cannon that fires Voltorbs which is powered by a Zapdos generator. That's a real cool way to show the specific ways that technology is advanced in the Pokemon world (atleast for Kanto) and how TR specifically corrupts it for its own benefit. Fits well with Lt. Surge being a GI too.
Koga's alright too, he's less interesting than Surge or Sabrina, but he's got a lot of creative uses for the Pokemon at his disposal when he isn't magically gifted like Sabrina or a techbro like Surge. He gets a crazy amount of mileage from otherwise-underwhelming Pokemon like Gastly and Golbat, and I can dig that. Very crafty bastard.

Ash isn't a strong trainer like Red. Ash is nothing without his Pikachu and cheats. Deep down, even the Chuuni Executive knew this, which is why Pikachu is the only pokemon Ash never heartlessly left behind and abandoned.

Even Friede doesn't rely on his Pikachu like a crutch. He still keeps his Charizard(which is stronger than Ash's charizard) around, proving that he's not only stronger than Ash but also cares more about his Pokemon since he doesn't abandon them.

Which is odd they didn't do this sooner. I mean they had Trip beat Ash 3 times in a row (and they tied once), and the writers had to have known seeing Ash struggle to beat a rookie 4 times in a row was absurd. Why pile on the losses like that?

Trip's entire character and rivalry with Ash was just a trainwreck from start to finish. I guarantee if he didn't exist BW's reputation would have been much better.

He feels like they wanted another Paul, but also like a proto-Sawyer. A rival with a chip on his shoulder, but mostly someone really enthusiastic about becoming a strong Trainer. The two parts have promise to play well with each other, but aren't executed well. Like, why is he a dickhead to Ash in particular if his goal is to beat Alder? What about that gives him the initial need to be smugly superior over others, the way Paul (a much more experienced Trainer) was? Paul needed to beat Ash to dismiss his criticisms of how Paul trained his Pokemon. What was Trip's beef (other than being a racist, I guess)?

I'm the recap anon watching BW right now (also the one you're replying to, but that's less important). I'm still keeping an open mind and trying to like things, but I'd definitely say BW up to now is just "fine." It has its good moments, but a lot of very weak ones. Most of it is just kind of adequate though, which is not praise.
