GX actually turned out to be one of my favourite Yugioh series. I didn't like it when I first saw the English dub back in the day because it wasn't the Duel Monsters characters and the dub was more comedic, bordering on gag dub territory at times. I dropped off after the first couple of seasons.

However, watching the Japanese dub years later greatly improved my perception of the series. I especially liked the whole Yubel arc. I just wish they didn't have to shelve/fake-out kill most of the original cast to make way for the new characters.

But to bring it back to Pokémon, I don't think Pokémon should mimic Yugioh GX. The whole school concept is already poorly realised in the base game. It makes it seem like the whole Paldea region revolves around the academy and everyone from toddlers to pensioners seems to be a student, but other than the start you never have to attend class or even return to the school. You might as well have dropped out after the opening.

I honestly suspect that the only reason they used a school setting was to have an excuse to restrict clothing options to shorts and trousers to prevent upskirts and complaints from more conservative counties about boys in dresses, while still raising their ESG score with the body type A and B nonsense.

I don't have the patience to read Yugioh cards and figure out how each card works anymore.
I would rather play GX era than Duel Monsters era (GOAT format), but the latter has little to none of the study nonsense plaguing later entries.
