>>54516717Pokemon's design philosophy is just went to a bad place.
Hopefully the eastern toy aesthetic where everything has to be made of simple shapes can die at some point because them admitting to compromise designs for simplicity and character appeal with forced goofiness like beards is the stem of shit like this.
Biped mon are not even an issue when they are ugly or cool, Blaziken is literally just a Taiwan Kickboxer in a chicken suit but gets a pass as gen 3 starter faces are far more feral and animalistic than all other recent starters because they were still trying to be monster animals more than archetypal characters.
This is corporate wide netting, instead of trust in the strength of style and content of the media make it more broad and versatile to catch a bigger demographic, makes sense for a medium with a billion fans but expect gimmicks and mass outreach over quality and inspiration.

Magmortar is a perfect example, he looks perfectly fine as a pokemon with a subtle theme, monstrous seamless package and comprehendible standing aside pokemon such as Steelix and Nidoking yet this retard is shitting on it because... why?
It's not as on the nose with it's theme like more modern mon?
It didn't turn from a ugly butthead fire duckman into an edgy skinny creature that abandons the concept?
It sacrifice a little angst with pink legs instead of a fire beard?
Nothing wrong with it, it adds some ugly monster variety to a series becoming more void of it's monster roots.
No one hates it because it's bipedal, the magmar line are fire demons which are bipedal monsters.
It's not cheesily on the nose making fire pitchforks like most modern mon.
It's not even bait or blatantly designed for a certain fan base.
People hate Magmortar... for simply being not their taste in a sea of 1000 monster designs.
Resulting in less monstrous designs and more element animals or conceptual humanoids with friend or pet phrenology.
