>>54693253Actually, they put it in because one of the biggest complaints of the original game was that exploration would overlevel the characters. The solution they found in 2 was giving some EXP a reserve system, although 1DE's is more similar to the NG+ version. Still, having the option to level down is a pretty solid inclusion for a game with a set party, it's not like Pokemon where you can just catch new Pokemon to level down. And for the record, 3 has a similar feature to 2 since it's impossible for the game developer to tell how many and which sidequests a player will do IN ADDITION TO how they feel about their level in relation to game difficulty. 2 also allowed some difficulty tweaking, not just "your/enemy damage is less/more", but letting you choose a bunch of stuff so you can make a bootleg Dante Must Die/License to Kill mode.
For another game that took player feedback very seriously, we have Bravely Default: For the Sequel. In the original version, the default class had a number of abilities that changed certain game mechanics on a fundamental level. One of the bigger points of player feedback were that they wished it was a menu option instead. As such, that's one big thing that was added to For the Sequel, which was released as the only version in the west
>>54693285>The player shouldn’t have to design your game for youWhich is easier
>Redesigning the game entirely because of player complaints (which they didn't catch in playtesting the first time)>Creating some sort of dynamic system to keep the player in the appropriate level range (that they already implemented the first time)>Letting the player have an option to fine tune their difficulty through a simple and intuitive menu.>>54693303>And clearly they agree since they only put this option in the remaster of the fucking Wii game instead of the brand new ones. You haven't played 2 or 3
>But you can't level down until postgame!Yeah, but you can choose to use the reserve EXP or not.
