Now some evil team is freeing berserk Pokémon to attack people, while handing out Burst Hearts to its generals. Possibly lead by this universe's version of Giovanni and in control of Mew, which would bring things a bit closer to early Pokémon lore where the creatures were poorly understood and Team Rocket is innovative in their use of them.
Burst Warriors fuse with two Pokémon rather than one, letting their designs be a little more original. Generally one of these will be a consistent partner and they'll swap out the others.
Male protag is partnered with Lairon, merging it with things like Lucario for armored forms. His final form comes when Lairon is freed from its stone, goes berserk and evolves to Aggron, but then willingly returns to him and unlocks the power of Mega Evolution (all his auxillary Pokémon just happen to be things with Mega Evolutions).
Female protag uses a Braixen, merging it with things like Sylveon and Steenee to create magical girl style forms. Her final form comes defeating a Mismagius/Gardevoir villainess and claiming one of her stones, creating a Braixen/Mismagius form with the power to fly on a broomstick.
