It would be cool if they introduced dual abilities but with legendaries having only one ability it would actually be balanced so it will never happen.

Bad move. These regional gimmicks that have been properly established as a formula since SM are supposed to help draw kids into Pokemon for the first time by "personalizing" their experience, giving them a gimmick that's exclusive to "their" generation of Pokemon that stands out compared to what came before and what'll come after.

You also gain STAB on the new type. So the pokemon is mono-tera defensively, but a combination of its normal and Tera types offensively. Tera-ing into a type you already are gives double STAB on that type

Petabilities.

A pokémon can borrow a team member's ability for the entire battle, while also keeping their original ability. Effectively having two abilities at the same time, just like the Calyrex forms, but for every pokémon in the game.

The 10th Generation/region is going to be a big milestone for the series so they'll want whatever gimmick they use to be either already-beloved or highly innovative.

I think that it's between the return of Megas which poll consistently as a fan-favorite gimmick or we'll see the Synchro-function introduced in SV expanded into synchro-battles where combat is semi-real time like Xenoblade

Personally, I'm hoping that they bring Megas back for this very reason. I feel like if they try to do Synchro battles as the gimmick for next gen, it will be another episode of: Good idea. Poor execution

i think what he means is like special commands that affect battle, something broad like being able to super power a pokemon or deal a ton of dmg once per battle. essentially mega+zmove but not as detailed and more varied, maybe banking off synchro in a in universe way by doing an ash greninja thing where you go beyond just yelling at your guys to do something. definitely not full on control but something involving a bond between the player character and a pokemon that does something flashy
