Old Pokémon
>world was hand crafted, each location was distinct and served its own purpose making them memorable
>protagonist designs are either cool or cute. Are all distinct and iconic.
>items were all located in specific secret areas, made finding them and exploring feel rewarding
>pokemon were mostly only catchable in their first or second stage. 3rd or special evolutions had to be earned either through training or items not found until certain points, making them feel special and strengthening bond
>reasonable linear challenge
>games are timeless and constantly repeatable

Nu pokemon
>world feels randomly generated. Other than the different biomes, everywhere looks the same. All the towns are the same and pointless.
>protagonists are ugly indistinct androgynous blobs that you can't even customize.
>items can all be found scattered randomly, no sense of progression
>pretty much all final evolutions, including special evolutions, can just be commonly found in the wild, making all training and pre evolutions feel pointless
>game is so "free" that you're basically guaranteed to be over leveled at every boss fight
>overall, nothing matters, everything is pointless
