Over anything else I would like to find people to play old generations with (mainly gens 2-4) in-person in order to get the fullest experience when it comes to record mixing, dex completion, Pokewalker stuff for HGSS and even battling with lesser stakes/fun rules but it seems next to impossible because it's not like there are any protocols or sites set up to facilitate that sort of thing for any games outside of competitive games.
I mean I see in game stores and stands at flea markets copies of these games sell pretty often, so surely people locally are buying these- but what are they even doing with them afterwards?
