>>55273272I mean, being trendy is cool and all, but I like Palmon because is something many games stopped doing long ago: experimenting.
Only indies and low budget studios can afford to be experimental. An AAA studio would kill itself rather than try with something weird or original.
AAA studios are like "More Mahvel, more DC, more lootboxes, more season passes, copy whatever kids find cool on TikTok, NOT MY DOLLARELINOS, NO!!!!!!!!!". While some games are very profitable, the problem is they are profitable because now they are part of the culture zeigest: oh, a monster taming game? Must be a pokeclone. Is that a FPS? No one is as good as the OG DOOM. Oh wow, an on rails adventure, CoD? You'll never be Half Life. Hey Overwatch, you updated and kill your playerbase? That's another point for TF2!
Good or interesting games are carried, remembered, and shared with people. Companies only want revenues. While I doubt Palmon will last, I hope it joins the "oh, I remember this game" culture, at least cult classic. And since is made in Unity, I hope the builds can be downladed so we can have goofy animations like the pink one trying to catch a Quaqaval, or Pokemon vs Palmon: watch how the survivor puts a 45 between Red's eyes while saying "9mm kills the body, but 45 kills the soul, and we ain't catching Ghost types today".
