Currently drawing one of Franco's grunts to get a little more comfortable with the new drawing tablet. Doing this made me realize that I didn't actually know what these guys looked like below the shoulders. But what is an artist really if they're not making shit up as they go?

White haired gremlin has no idea what a normal date is at all, no idea how an "ideal" one should go or anything. She doesn't even know how to so much as flirt POORLY. She is literally incapable of thinking of words that could even vaguely resemble a flirtation.

Closest she has gotten in ANY timeline was where she scooped up a girl who had an interest in her that she also mutually started opening up to, scooted off up a hill outside of town with a view of said town in the middle of the night and kissed said girl on the forehead cause she's an awkward, impulsive fucking dork with no idea what the fuck she's doing and can only really make moves with ACTIONS rather than words. Said non-Pokemon character relationship with said writing friend of mine is still ongoing.

Thank you to everyone who has (and to anyone who will) participated in Vega's little interview scenario! Honestly it's been a lot of fun to read everyone's responses. Haha funny you say that. While I write Rouka's dialogue in english she's meant to be speaking that universe version's "Japanese" (Kantonian I guess). And Rouka has a habit of injecting English words into her speech. Her catchphrase is "STOP!!" though she usually says it in a positive way.

NTA, but...Emily and her "sister" Arai are probably some of the only Unovans that Rouka could ever meet that are fluent in Japanese. Cause Mari, the 3rd "sister", is a Kanto native and Emily knows Japanese from hanging around Mari and her Grandfather while her and Mari were kids during summer vacations to Kanto that her family would take. After the first summer vacation where Emily and Mari met, Emily brought Arai along too which caused Arai to become more fluent in Japanese since her family is has ties in Johto but moved to Unova in a previous generation but her family only slightly introduced her to the Japanese language of their roots.

Here’s a question:

Talk about the specifics of your interpretation of the Pokémon universe. Do Pokémon say their own names, or do they have cries and animal noises? How do battles work? Do Pokémon know more than four moves? What changes have you made to the lore or the universe’s rules?

I saw someone explaining their inclusion of Synergy Bursts from Pokkén. I thought that was pretty cool.

My own answer:

However, I do have the general rule that Megas, Dynamax, Z-Moves, Terastallisation and yes, even Synergy Bursts, work with the same energy, just channeled differently. This is just so I can see characters pull crazy stunts or cool stuff with their Pokémon without being limited to, for example, the “Dynamax only happens in Galar” rule.

I might even consider giving Koa a Mega with one of his mons. I’d give Kommo-o a Synergy Burst form if Clangorous Soulblaze didn’t exist.

In my own take on it, pokemon don't say their names, that one was always dumb. They just make animal or appropriate sounds (and yes the regis do their silly beeps)
Battles are a mix between how they'd work ingame (move BP, abilities, stat boosts and even STAB are brought up, being conscious of terrain going up and who the terrain setter would be), as well as a little creative play, like how anime battles would go about. For example, Golurk would repeatedly use shadow punch, despite its low power, to bring its opponents in range (sort of like a grab) due to it's perfect accuracy. Another one would be grabbing its opponent, go into rocket mode, then slam both into the ground, as heavy slam or heat crash. Facade is also a versatile move, because it can basically be any punch, kick, slap, thrust, chop, nukite, and hell even grabs. Also got the idea for a blaziken using double kick as its main attacking move. It sends itself airborne, kicks once, then uses a combination of blaziken's featherweight, newton's third law, being VERY good at managing it's center of gravity, with broscience holding it all together, in order to sustainably reman airborne as if pulled straight from a Jackie Chan flick.
Besides that there's also some loose interpretation of types regarding non moves. Like Conkeldurr just throwing its concrete pillars towards an ice type to deal super effective damage, despite that not being a move (like, it just throw them, not stone edge, not rock throw, not nothing). Basically just think of what Nasu would do regarding different affinities and elements. Oh also the flashy attacking style from Pokken, that's cool too.
Megas exist and are more international, but rare to come across due to price and rarity of the items involved, as well as the bond prerequisite between the mon and trainer. Z-moves, Dynamax and Tera are all locked to their respective regions, whose availability would reflect the games.

The actual “burst state” is a Ferrum-exclusive phenomenon like it is in Pokken, and amplifies Mega evolutions (allowing them to occur instantaneously) and “burst moves” (signature moves), rather than being their direct power source. This is mostly an excuse to give Alex’s Weavile an ace up its sleeve.

I decided to make “basic moves” like Bite and Slash innate to Pokemon because I think it’s stupid for Pokemon to have to “learn” these things which would be normal behavior for animals in our world. “Learned moves” are restricted to the crazy stuff like Flamethrower. I was contemplating making it so that Pokémon can have six learned moves and not four.

I like your idea, but it opens up the question of regional dynamics. Would Mega Stones, Z-Crystals, and Tera Jewels just be commonplace? Would they be only naturally found in their home regions, thus leading to Trainers flocking to them in order to find such powerful materials, leaving other regions in the dust? Would they be scarce, and only a few trainers from each region posess those items? I’d like for Trainers to be able to pull crazy shit from each game but for storytelling I’m not sure how I would make it work.

Definitely the anime's interpretation of battles. The games aren't dynamic enough to try and express battles to me.

If I ever decided to write any battles, I'd keep it at four moves just for simplicity.

Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, and their galarian counterparts are just extremely rare rather than being one of a kind. I guess this would also apply to some other lesser legendaries that don't have lore reasons for being one of a kind but Axel doesn't care about those.
As for regional gimmicks they're just as they are in the games (restricted to the regions where the games take place). Axel dislikes them so he doesn't use any.

Mine is partially a self-insert, his tastes are basically just my own, just the laziness, instead of exaggerated, was subsided, because otherwise, he would just be a HikiNEET (which is what I would be if I was in the Pokémon world and had no responsabilities). I'm no writer, so I can't really make a non-self-insert character and somehow still make them believable, not sure about interesting, but I'm pretty sure they would just feels too flat (well, to be honest, even Ayumu may be boring to other people, since I myself am a boring person), so yeah, I'm sure when making an OC, most would like to make something beyond a self-insert, but for starters (or if one just prefers it), it's totally fine.

Since Ayumu wen't on his journey at 13 and it took 2 years, that made him get quite behind things, but before going on his next journey, he made a deal with the school, were they would send him his assignments (through Pelipper), he would do them, and send them back, so basically "studies through correspondence".
Higher education is nice and all, but as a nomad it would be difficult for him (tho I guess doing through correspondence would still be viable), so maybe after he decides to settle down.

Just whatever noise would fit them.

Depend on the situation. It's certainly not "turn based", but I guess it's pretty much like in the anime for the most part, expect for battles with villains and whatnot that would be more like PokéSpe where the trainer is also in danger and have to run around to not get hit by the attacks as well.

Yes, no forgetting old moves in my setting.
(also I think the 4 moves thing is just for gameplay mechanics)

-Fairy is weak to Dragon instead of immune (I don't really care about balancing, but maybe I'll think about more advantages for Fairy later);
-Legendaries are normally unbeatable for normal Pokémon, and are not catchable through normal means, even with Master Ball.

Yeah but it's the only gimmick backed up by a reason to appear in other gens.
Mega evolutions need the mega stone of the trainer and the stone of the pokemon. These originate in Kalos, but can be shown to be "exported".
Z moves may be argued to be similar, sure, but it's still heavily reliant on Alola itself to work. Ok fine Z moves also work, but I wouldn't give it to any random shmuck.
Dynamax and Tera are both reliant on Eternatus' energy and the rocks/Terapagos (both of which are hardstuck in their respective region, on top of being highly regulated in usage), so those are also out.

Sw/Sh did happen (I'm not happy about that), but Rose's sperg-out happened literally overnight and LEON and friends took care of everything before anyone else could react. Not much has changed with Oleana stepping in as President, seeing as she was pretty much already running the show, but Franco was pretty disturbed that the (former) corporate headquarters was so easily raided by a pair of teenagers. It was Franco's recommendation that Rose Tower be split off from the company to be converted into the Battle Tower, with the subsidiary offices being relocated elsewhere to make it easier for certain information to go missing. Franco then monitored the Trainers competing in the Battle Tower to scout out candidates for his security teams.

Mew MAY be one of a kind in the main series, since the only one we actually learn about ingame was never found on Cinnabar Island and Mew wouldn't be seen again until Faraway Island in Emerald. There's definitely multiple Mew in the Anime, and at least two in Mystery Dungeon.
It's a slam dunk case for fellow myths Jirachi, Victini, and Magearna.
Uxie, Azelf, and Mesprit are probably unique, since they don't have the benefit of the "shard" mythos that Arceus and its firstborn have to explain away having multiples. The two sets we see in Sinnoh and Unova both share the Sinnoh iconography within the caves, which would be weird unless there was a specific link indicating they were one and the same.
Giratina is its own character, definitely. Eternatus, the Tapus, Kyurem, Zekrom & Reshiram, Yveltal & Xerneas (but not Zygarde); the Z-wolf siblings, Pecharunt's retainers, and Terapagos are all verifiably standalones.

We know for a fact Entei, Raikou, and Suicune aren't unique--we see them used repeatedly by different key members of the Battle Frontiers, and it's said there's an Entei for every volcano which raises the real question of whether or not this implies a species mutualism with Heatran. If it were randomly-generated Trainers using legendaries, it would be one thing, but these are major characters with predetermined loadouts, so it's safe to say this is the real deal. Groudon and Kyogre are most prrrobably (TM) unique owing to being sealed up by the Orbs, but unless Kyogre is just VERY mobile, its appearances throughout the anime cast a thin shadow of doubt on that. Rayquaza is an unknown variable. We know it wasn't sealed, but we know nothing about its ecosystem in the stratosphere aside from Minior being a prey species. Beyond nullifying Groudon and Kyogre's atmospheric influences, there's actually very little tying Rayquaza to them directly; it's moreso just a case of a species' niche allowing it to fill a vacuum in a foreign ecosystem--Rayquaza is an apex predator that just happens to hard-counter two other apex predators in the rare occasions when it leaves its habitat to enter our own. With potentially 203.6 million square miles of habitat to work with, the upper limit of Rayquaza's population is dependent entirely on just how efficiently it can squeeze its nutritional needs out of space debris--and if its hostility to outsiders like Deoxys is an indication, it's a very delicate balancing act.

As the thread looks to agree, the more animalistic cries and non turn based combat work best in more serious narratives.
I would say the range of how many moves a Pokemon knows can vary by their intelligence. A Weedle would probably only have the capacity for 1-2 moves, while an Alakazam would range between 15-20.

Just as the depths of our real world oceans are unknown to us, there's an entire realm of infinite possibilities in the skies above the Pokemon world.

I was thinking, should I swap out Serperior and Zapdos in his team for Chandelure and Dragapult? I like Serperior and Zapdos, and they add some variation to his team, but I think that swapping them out would make his team's typing (adjusting his team would have two of each type in it, Dark, Dragon, Poison, and Steel) and "theme" more consistent, as well as potentially stronger. Someone also mentioned that objectmons are fitting for his character and that applies to both Chandelure and technically Dragapult. Serperior and Zapdos wouldn't be gone, they would just be in his reserves for whenever he needs them.

I'd say they can know more than 4 but their utmost potential can only be truly realized with 4 while the other moves all vary in how potent and mastered they are. Most having 2-3 more mastered moves on top of the 4 they have and otherwise it begins to fall off both due to a limitation in the Pokemon themselves but ESPECIALLY a limitation in a Trainer's ability to actually teach moves to their Pokemon. People with an ability to connect to Pokemon on a higher, non-physical level like those who exhibit some amount of Infinity Energy output (aka basically all the actually special people in the world) despite being human. The two types of Infinity Energy make contact as the Trainer and Pokemon bond and they become more able to communicate and understand one another, leading to better teaching and learning, and in turn more mastery over more moves. Though the cap still varies from person to person and most people's cap still remains only slightly to moderately higher than the norm. Emily's knack for Move Tutoring and her absurd Infinity Energy output makes her an amazing teacher for these sort of things but despite willing to do Move Tutoring for money, she won't "uncap" people's Pokemon. She feels like people should have to achieve that on their own and if they can't, it's just how it was meant to be.

To me, everything except for Mega Evolution are region exclusive, simply because they rely on a local element that is absent from everywhere else. Despite the availability of Mega Evolution it is the least publicly known advancement in Pokemon Battling. Both because of the mysterious nature of Mega Evolution itself even to those who know about it and the scarcity of the means of Mega Evolution compared to things like the Z-Stone accessories or the Dynamax Band. But it is also because of the Pokemon League itself suppressing the information. Though Emily would say it's maybe one of their very few good decisions as a girl who is able to use Mega Evolution even without a stone. Z-Stones and Tera forms are the most stable gimmicks out there and while Dynamaxing carries it's own risks the Pokemon affected by it are still more well within control as they are simply enhanced by an outside energy for a small span of time and otherwise there are no adverse effects apart from maybe the Trainer being a little tired when it comes to Z-Moves. Mega Evolution on the other hand is like an unhinged genetic overclock drawn out of the Pokemon itself as it basically forces them to go at 300% and even with a strong bond the Pokemon can sometimes go berserk rather easily compared to loss of control of a Dynamax.

None of that flinging energy beams that the anime has done for the past decade, I want to make battles feel fast-paced and dangerous. In the original 0.5 draft, I used the water droplets falling on the bridge as a metronome to give a sense of how everything is unfolding within the span of seconds, but it interrupted the flow too often even after I scaled it down, and I decided to cut it almost entirely for that finalized draft.

To your own credit, I absolutely love how lived-in you make Lilycove feel. There's a vibrancy and connection between people and Pokemon in your writing that the games struggle to convey. I respect the candid dialogue, too. It's exactly the kind of salt that would be second-nature to a sailor.

I like it being a mix of established cries and animal noises but I'm certainly not opposed to them just saying their names/shorter versions of it since it's what I'm used to from the anime. I keep them at 4 moveslots when writing fights but trainers have free reign to swap them out between battles just like in the games, although i treat pokemon as being able to attack outside of established moves (as in, a pokemon doesn't need to to bite to well. bite) if i ever wrote something sort of region spanning fic i'd undo the regional parts of gimmicks since its more fun to see things like galarian trainers using dynamax outside their home region because its *their* gimmick.

Good question. I like the idea of them just making chirps and sounds similar to the animal their based on or their in game. Jynx's pokedex entries in particular make note of them having a language that is similar to Human speech but isn't quite. So I imagine her repeating (roughly) things Rouka says. She speaks only in Gyaru-Go.

Since it's Kanto I like to keep the "If you lock eyes with a trainer you gotta battle" rule. >A lot of abilities have effects outside of the context of battle. For example Jynx has Forewarn which I interpret as some level of clairvoyance. So she can warn Rouka if something bad is about to happen.
>Rotom phones aren't available in Kanto due to a lack of Rotoms. So Rouka's smart phone is just a regualr phone. The Pokedex has gone outta style (It's seen as a PDA basically) so she uses her phone as her Pokedex. Her Pokedex is also how she can see what moves her pokemon know or can know. But because the info is curated randomly from people online sometimes she's misinformed. Also she learns a lotta useless information.

Even then, he’d probably have no idea how to react. Koa has little concept of boyfriend/girlfriend relationships and he’d probably think that he should ask for her hand in marriage as soon as he develops feelings or something.

Either it’s someone like Zinnia, for example, strong-willed and in tune with Pokémon, or someone like Shauna who’s very hyper. There is no in-between. Although I’ve spoken before about how my IRL self had a thing for Mallow when the games came out. He might be into her too if I ever write them in a scene together.

While in Kalos they are believed to have been originated from the Ultimate Weapon (as far as I remember), in Hoenn people believe Rayquaza is the progenitor of the Mega Stones, so technically, it wouldn't be too hard to just say that any event that gathers or scatters a lot of energy can create Mega Stones.
I don't really remember what powers the Z-Crystals.
Dynamax is indeed stuck in Galar (not that anything of value would be lost, although retconning it to be just "the energy Eternatus exudes can cause Pokémon to go berserk if they absorb too much, and those who absorb an especially large quantity undergo Mega Evolution" should be easy enough).
As for Tera, Briar managed to make it happen in the terrarium, and voiced her desire/objective of bringing it to other regions, so it seems quite possible.

So, back in 2011 Uva Academy didn't looked so great in my opinion.
Uva has very low obedience levels among students. Most of the academy was damaged from intense pokemon battles. Gangs, nerds, goth kids, jocks. Everyone in Uva do pokemon battles all around the campus.
The unofficial Gym Challenge runs around the clubs and the finals are based on Galar's tournaments instead of classic E4. "Gym Leaders" have their own sets of puzzles give away actual badges since everyone put their money in this activity. Students from Pokemon Battles club serve as game masters. Iono is fourth in the cycle, Vidya Gaemz club is Electric-type Gym, its puzzle is simple: Beat Iono in Street Fighter (she picks the strongest characters and does meta-tier moves)
And Tweny... well, he serves as a Gym Guide... because its Tweny, he's somehow at two places at the same time
Gym types by now:
>Dark (Occult club)
>Poison (Science club)
>Fighting (Geeks)
>Electric (Video Games club)
>Fairy (8th gym, cooking club, sorry, Katy graduated year ago)

If I had to tie this with canon games, I would say that MC crew arrives in past for whatever their goal is and gets involved into this Nemona wants more challenge. There will be no Terastalization battles, but trainers are hella strong.
Tweny would be the first encounter that will explain what happens around the Academy in a cryptic manner

Alex's story setting is heavily based off of Adventures with a few mechanical changes. His storyline occurs in between BW2 and XY so it's relatively inconsequential to the main storyline.

Since we're talking about continuity a lot in this thread I figure that I may as well talk about a likely scrapped idea I had: incorporating guns, explosives, and melee weapons like in the early anime. Their use is primarily balanced out by how inconsequential they are towards Pokemon. Although guns and bombs have the same effects on humans, they only do about as much damage as a strong move like Hyper Beam, and melee weapons have about as much damage as weak moves like Bite and Slash, which is pretty much in line with the anime. Sustained fire, and sufficiently large explosions, as well as constant bludgeoning, would be able to make a Pokemon faint. Attacking a fainted Pokemon enough would cause lacerations to appear and eventually kill it. This would also be how Pokemon eat each other in the wild.

I don't know if I'll proceed with it, but Pokemon are kind of a substitute for weapons in Alex's story, instead of gunfights with people firing behind cover and hiding to reload, you have people yelling orders at their Pokemon behind cover while the Pokemon are in the line of fire taking each other's moves.

"If I recall correctly, this was a match that happened a bit before you enrolled. Caused quite the commotion, y'know? But take a look at this girl. I always wondered who it might be, but now that you mention it her fighting style feels really familiar. I wonder who she could be?"

Of course, Orchis loves Clavell. He really respects him as a student and as faculty. Especially after the old staff resigned from the Academy, Orchis feels optimistic for the new crew to not repeat the same mistakes as the old one.
And while it isn't dislike, he is a little unnerved by Geeta. Technically he doesn't work under her, but hearing a lot from Larry has influenced his perception of her. Geeta for her part likes the boy and playfully offers him to join the League to tease him though.

I wouldn’t say Megas would suddenly be commonplace. Z-Crystals are kinda commonplace, since anyone who passes the trials can get them, but I’d write that as if the trials were harder than the games make them out to be. I wouldn’t change much about how they work, but it should be clear that only those that are good fits can pass. That’s why Team Skull members usually fail, because they’re not strong enough (of character) to do so. It was a ton of fun! And I’m glad you think Koa is cute, I guess? I can only blame myself for that one. He has a soft underbelly underneath that stoic exterior. Koa just wants the people and Pokémon around him to be okay, but that responsibility he gives himself can melt off when he has friends to hang out with. On top of that, I was thinking that for Koa fics he’d probably need an antagonist. My leading idea was to have Faba start an evil wing of the Aether Foundation that reflects how they acted in the second to third act of Sun and Moon, but I don’t know if maybe making an original villain would be more interesting. Maybe a Macro Cosmos representative who wants to follow Rose’s work, but with even less scruples and expanding their scope to the whole world. I was thinking this guy could have a Gigantamax Gengar to combat the Totems on the same scale, full-on kaiju fights. It would also be a tough opponent for Koa, who’s ace is half Fighting type, so there’d be no easy Close Combat response.

I forgot to answer this! Koa’s biggest inspiration is Hassel. Hassel is a Dragon specialist, but he’s an artist first and foremost. He left behind his clan to live his most authentic life. Koa highly respects that, as well as his power as an Elite Four. (After being a captain, he wants to be an Elite Four partially because of him). Koa thinks this choice was honest and art is a good thing to live for. Even if Koa himself probably lacks the studies to make any in-depth artistic analysis, he stands by the simple idea that art makes people happy.

I’d also like to clarify that for my Koa fics, SwSh and SV would happen during the year after SM, for added convenience.

I’m already picturing Koa confronting this guy in my head. Think a Sonic/Eggman dynamic, if Sonic was more serious and Eggman was the SatAm Eggman but with a nice guy front for public appearances.

I think the core plot of these stories would be that this guy shows up in Alola after the defeat of Rose and starts to set up a bunch of machines in wildlife areas, to generate Dynamax spots and gather Wishing Stars (which in this plot are attracted to Dynamax spots). This bad guy would do it all in the name of saving the planet and it’d be kind of similar to the Marshall plan, in theory. A developing region like Alola, only just opening its League recently, suddenly getting a lot of funding and attention in exchange for some industrialisation. But of course, this strategy would be carried out less for environmental reasons and to essentially subjugate Alola to the Macro Cosmos corporation.

Most of all Charlie admires both her parents. She had rich life thanks to her parents and her dad gave her serious lessons back in a day. Also she respects most of the professors, mostly Sycamore

Honestly, I try telling the AI to do other poses and it just seems to refuse or it comes out looking like utter shit.

As far as "shape" is concerned, lots of AI pics come close, some are perfect and sometimes I like to think Emily changes coats based on it's size, and what kind of mood it gives off. Like sometimes a coat with more armor bits on it means a bad mood/preparing for a fight, something a bit more serious and imposing looking with or without armor is usually a sign she's out to intimidate someone and/or make something clear in the actions she is no doubt soon to make and less "puffy" and non-armored coats/just something more meant to look good is a sign of a calm or maybe even outright good mood.

Though sometimes some of the aspects of her coat are interchangeable cause to her armor and a big framed, puffy coat just looks good. It's her own personal fashion taste. But it will always to some degree be a big, puffed up looking winter jacket with a fur lined hood that just screams "shelled off" to people.

Maybe try looking into getting a local stablediffusion build running?
ControlNets basically solve the pose issues and you can still make it look similar to the character in question.

Nah, I already spent 15 years on writing, I am not fit for 10+ years of learning drawing. Plus most people can only specialize in one or the other or else both suffer to some degree.

AI has logical limitations and doesn't see things in the same way we do as humans. You can describe something that gets the same mental image between two human beings but it won't do the same with AI. Especially since AI can only generate from pre-existing content. And sometimes there just is no way to make the AI do something different from how it's normally coded to. Like how literally every Bing AI picture has some kind of rim lighting around a character even when you try to use keywords to hopefully tell the AI NOT to do that. I've asked people on more than one occasion and none of them seem to have hit something that makes the AI perform outside of it's norms and biases outside of by total accident.

I like the sound of Hemlock. It sounds close to a Shakespearean character’s name. Hell, I might draw from that too. Make him all theatrical and stuff. Maybe he waves around a Cubone’s skull and acts all high and mighty while talking about his evil plans.

I’d say this guy is half Lex Luthor, half Eggman. Good public image, cunning and very very friggin’ evil when faced with the heroes. Hell, wasn’t hemlock the plant that people made poison for suicide with? It’s perfect.

I hope he’s not too similar to Franco because he’s a Macro Cosmos guy, but my plan is for Hemlock to be a cunning, ruthless guy who would easily drop a LTG speech to Koa’s face when he knows no one’s looking or recording. He’d probably use Poison and Steel types. Gengar is his ace, and he’d probably have a Revavroom, maybe an Archaludon, Toxicroak maybe?

Koa sees himself as someone caught in a storm of conflicting views. His home is changing, his parents are uptight as usual and he’s not quite sure if what he wants to do will work, and what he’ll do after. He thinks he should do this because no one else really seems ready or knowledgeable enough to take the position as the Canyon’s first Trial Captain. For him, it’s a “if I don’t do this, who will?” situation, but deep down he wants to do it to both prove himself and gain his parents’ approval. The guardian persona is essentially one big coping mechanism for Koa, but he’s still into it anyway.

So yeah, Koa sees himself as a guardian of the Canyon and the Pokémon that live there, but deep down he just wants mom and dad to approve of his efforts to both respect tradition and find new horizons.

A more extreme version of that Axel guy's avoidance of "life responsibilities" really.

Alex doesn’t have any moral convictions, but he respects the protagonists for being able to take down their region’s Teams. Thing is, he views all of them as simply taking revenge for past wrongs. The idea of being a fighter for good, and having a genuine desire to fight against evil, doesn’t register in his head. He also respects Champions for their strength, although not the E4 or Gym leaders. Except for Rika; he meets her during a filler scene in the story I’m going to write and has a good impression of her because of her personality.
Alex hates the International Police (except Nate because he’s “the only one who actually did some shit”) because he views them as inefficient bureaucrats who only make arrests and let the protagonists/vigilantes do all of the work for them. He also hates Teams, but not really because they’re evil, more just because they would impede his life and the operations of his dad’s company.

Except for Plasma. He REALLY doesn’t like them. That one is personal.

Most people think of Rouka as a scatterbrained vapid teen. Its usually only once they get to know her better that their opinion changes. Rouka herself doesn't have a very high opinion of herself. Guns are cool and fine, but their inclusion should feel meaningful, for the reasons you outlined. Why use a gun when you can use a Pokemon? When you can't use a Pokemon, obviously. Introducing a firearm is an act of desperation, it signifies someone is not capable of handling a Pokemon, or they don't even care about the concept of being sporting and are willing to just cap you to get their way. When a firearm is used in a scene, all bets are off, it's kill-or-be-killed, and your writing should reflect that. If you treat the firearms respectfully, then you'll be fine. If you give a character a firearm just because GUNZ ARE COOL, GUY WITH GUNZ = MOAR COOL, then you graduate from Pokemon OC into Sonic OC territory.

You can also see It's habitat (but you need a premium account to see regions outside your own.) It's organized like a Wikipedia entry with each section describing a new thing. These entries can be added on to by readers but the info will have a [citation needed] before it is considered official.

Photographs of the pokemon. This is the most heavily moderated part of the site for obvious reasons. Many pokemon photographers a la snap post their pictures here. The idea is to show photos or videos that demonstrate its biology or behaviors. Its not a place for your cutesy pet photos.

A series of message boards where people start conversations with each other about their pokemon. Either information about catching them or taking care of them or just a place to talk about their pokemon. Unsurprisingly Rouka tends to browse this section the most. Which is also where Rouka learns a lot of what she knows about her pokemon. Which is why shes often wrong.
>interactivity
The Pokedex app uses your camera and if you point it at a pokemon it'll take you to their dex entry. Its not perfect and the quality of your camera will effect this feature. It also tells you details about the pokemon.

bibis definitely got a lot of admiration for diantha. a champion+famous actress who maintains a graceful aura is sure to catch her attention. plus dianthas philosophies on things like aging kinda make bibi feel excited for everything the future has in store, like even if she may not be a kid forever there will always be new experiences to cherish.

goes without saying the sv main cast are close with her. Her relationship with arven is almost sibling like and theres a bit of a parallel going on between her and mabostiff, of all people (er...pokemon?) given the "got hurt bad in area zero" angle.

She and nemona are rivals but they also share a unique understanding by virtue of the fact that they both struggle to connect with people outside of battling.

B's mostly just endeared by Penny since she got to see her slowly leave her shell, seeing someone who's usually more reserved let their guard down around her makes her feel special, and the same applies for kieran during the teal mask.

her and carmine definitely start off on the wrong foot before settling into a genuine friendship where they sling insults at each other as a form of endearment.

She initially dislikes drayton enough to insult him in conversation. due to carmines warning and a total misreading of his vibes she assumes he's a bully and decks him in the face after the whole "ex-champion" bit only to immediately get her shit pushed in, as evidenced by the drawings in the archive. once she comes to understand that its shitty of her to impose her ideals on other people, and that hes not the reason behind kierans change in behavior, she owns up and apologizes. she still doesn't like him but they're on better terms post indigo disk.

even after arven explains what happened to the AI post area zero bibi cant bring herself to forgive professor sada, her AI, or think very positively of them

The best way to enjoy pokemon in the current year is to not bother with the actual media and just look at the franchise as a whole, grab the things you like, ignore the things you dislike, and start creating your "own thing" fancontent of sorts tailed to your own tastes and desires since everything sucks nowadays.

As for Hemlock, I don’t have a design yet, but that post about guns gave me an interesting idea. Hemlock is evil as fuck, intelligent and something of a captain of industry. Alola is one of the least industrialised regions, so that’s why I think the potential for this story is so interesting.

I already have some scenes planned from all over the story, but as for a first fic, what I’ll probably do is introduce Koa and his environment, then introduce Hemlock and his deal with the Alola League, and then start showing how those new machines are affecting the Canyon. I don’t quite know what first threat Koa will face, because it shouldn’t be Hemlock himself to start out, but I know I want him to team up with Hapu for this one. After the threat is resolved, there’d be more hints of Hemlock’s involvement for a sequel.

I don’t know how many of these I’ll write. Maybe 5 chapters? Maybe 10 might be too huge an undertaking? I don’t want to make it too big either. I want to mix both adventure and some slice of life here and there, with several characters in the Alola cast and maybe a surprise or two.

Honestly I made Orchis to let me discuss in the thread more since all my other ones are in such a different setting that answers relating to canon are kinda difficult to answer. Also there's just a lot of them TT It's nice to have a sideproject and switch between the two depending on where the drive is at that moment. Maybe consider making that other OC if you think it's an appealing idea?

An oc I made for a fangame region I will probably never make.
Cole is a pokemon battling prodigy from an unnamed region. He wants to own pokemon but in his region, trainer licenses are only granted to people 25 or older.
Impressed by his skills, a trainer school from another region offers him an all expenses paid transfer. He's about to reject but is tempted when they added a hefty stipend and an opportunity to have his own pokemon. While this region is known for its economic instability- the pokemon league declared bankruptcy and had to be rebuilt ~5 years ago- the allure of catching pokemon (and a stipend) was too tempting to resist.

I’m starting to sketch some Hemlock designs. The thing is, I have to balance both being intimidating and being presentable while not being too snobbish. I tried the idea of him being bald, but I wonder if that’s too comical. Can someone take him seriously in a situation where he’s being evil? I can’t be sure of that.

While I draw concepts, I’m trying to think of him in terms of backstory and goals.

Hemlock was born in Spikemuth, and he grew up in poverty. He was a privileged mind, both for business and Pokémon battles, but he could never care for anyone other than himself. His bonds with his Pokémon were only superficial, as they’re tools to him. He rose the ranks of Macro Cosmos first in the security division, and then he started to make his name known in the big ranks. When Rose went down, Hemlock took the chance to make a play for his spot. I’m not sure if he’d be the CEO, but at least some kind of regional manager to excuse his deals with Alola.

Hemlock cares about one thing: money. He wants to make sure he’ll never be in a position of poverty or weakness again. To him, Alola is easily exploitable because Alolans are starting to open up, so they’re often naïve. His goal is to turn Alola into his playground for industry and keep them dependent on Macro Cosmos energy so he can keep profiting. The whole energy crisis, to him, is nothing but an excuse. He plans to remove the Totems out of the picture and remodel Alola to his liking so that they’ll be dependent on him, and also because he simply doesn’t like the Alolan way of life. Hemlock thinks they’re uncivilised and backwards, but the future he sells them is really not one they should want.

She would have had a sixth Pokémon, but I decided to refrain from that because as a young child she was caught in a car crash killing her and her parents instantly. In an act of love, her father's Gengar gave it's "life" to bring Grym back.

Changing topics: the Planet Wisp theme(s) surprisingly fit the tone of the scenes in my head for the Koa fics. Well, Alola is a pretty cool Region, where almost everyone seems nice, so sure, why not.

Depending on when in the story you want to do Lillie's return, you can just say that Mizuki (or elio I guess) is too depressed to do anything.
I'm half joking, but Ultra Space is really the perfect excuse, as you can establish that time flows different when traversing there, and what seemed like a couple days out in the Ultra Space, turned out to be months in regular Alola.

Not necessarily. The Tapus would be in the way. I’m just thinking of some way he’d have to neutralise them. My working idea was that the new machines Macro Cosmos would install all over Alola in certain important areas (read: close to the temples) would have an adverse effect related to unnaturally inserting Dynamax energy into an untouched ground, so the Pokémon in the area would start feeling sick. The Tapus, and maybe the Totems too, could be especially weak to this. I guess because the Tapus are Fairy type and Hemlock works with Poison types a lot? So when Alola’s guardians have fallen, Macro Cosmos would step in to become Alola’s new guardians. This is a work in progress and I’ll see how to write this properly.

while ive been making ocs since i was a little kid i only started writing actual fics back when teal mask dropped since for some unfathomable reason it triggered my autism like nothing else. part of the reason why i never really wrote anything was because i felt too incapable to actually tackle stories with any sort of themes/meaning/character development. but the idea of dreams and what it takes to chase them appealed to me a lot though and its why i actually bothered to try giving bibi an established personality and backstory instead of throwing together a character design+team and calling it a day. she's supposed to express that you'll make sacrifices or get hurt pursuing the things you dream about but that you shouldn't give up

also in your defense future/past is such a good theme gamefreak decided to do it twice between BW and SV

I intend to defeat the "power of friendship" trope with Alex by showing that you can have an absent connection with your Pokemon and still be a successful trainer, and also not be completely evil. I also want to demonstrate that fighting against evil doesn't necessitate that you're exactly "good", as Alex is mostly motivated by revenge rather than a desire to fight evil. >>55372710
His "N Counterpart" side isn't the focal point anymore, but it is something I want to explore because the dichotomy in Pokemon is for the most part split between people like Ash who have a deep bond with their Pokemon and abusive jerks like Ghetsis or Lysandre or obsessed perfectionist freaks like Paul or that one kid with the Tepig. I can't recall any character that isn't flat out evil or blatantly depicted to be abusive yet still unapologetically views Pokemon as tools for their own benefit.

Orchis is someone with a surprisingly low understanding of himself. To him, he's a ball of contradictions. To the faculty he's a hardworking assistant (that can play hard and fast with the rules at times) and to the students he's a reliable tutor and someone to come to when in trouble, but he tells himself it's just his job to deflect from the fact that he actually cares a LOT. He was of the graduating class when the Team Star incident happened, and he feels an immense amount of guilt for being a bystander even when the situation was far out of his control. It's why he even decided to become a TA in the first place. He absolutely loves people, but he'll normally never fully let down the emotional insulation that acting out a role gives him because to him, people are like fire. Get too close and you might get burned. Despite that though he's never anything but genuine, if a bit mischievous at times.

For your second question, it's gotta be that he's "I'm a genius! Oh no!" the character. Like that match I wrote up earlier was the result of him coming to Iono when she was first starting out as a gym leadef and proposing the whole exhibition match thing, and it was a nice idea where he was intending to lose and make her look good. And then Iono throws the match because "people like underdogs amirite" and it fucking works even better than the original plan would have So then he says some really haughty shit about the League as a whole in a moment of "whatdoIsayhereuuuhh" and THAT blows up too. Iono then goes "wouldn't it be funny if you fought the other gym leaders too" and he ends up doing performances with all of them until Larry. Then both Geeta and Nemona jump in because "that looks fun" and suddenly this becomes a bigass match that he did NOT plan for in the slightest.

I usually stick to the drawthreads, but was reminded of my pokemon OCs from childhood recently. I made these originally after the release of HG/SS when most of my friends still only had DPPt. I was trading a lot of Johto mons to them, and I thought of story of cousins who live in Sinnoh and Johto and were pen pals/rivals/
Titan lives in Sinnoh and is the son of Volkner and wants to be a pokemon ranger. He uses Turtwig and Ralts(based on my Platinum playthrough).
Rosegold lives in Johto and is training to be a pokemon nurse. She uses Cyndaquil and Magnemite.
Just some fun characters I thought about for about a decade or so now.

For Furia and the characters in that region as a whole, the main theme is about past consequences. The various curses that manifest are a direct result of some shit some idiots did centuries ago, Lan's whole character arc is about the consequences of his edgelord phase and how he has to deal with them, the clan heads have varying levels of "I inherited this situation and even if I did/didn't choose it for myself I still care enough to try to make it better", and so on. How much do the people living in the present have to suffer due to the consequences of people who came before them? What keeps them from just falling into despair and just giving up on the whole thing? What do you do when you've done some stupid shit and realize that you actually hurt the people you love most because of it?

For Orchis I kinda just made him a distant descendant of Lan and another character I've yet to introduce and for participating in the thread. But as time's gone on I really want to play with the theme of personal duality. Also just to have some fun doing stuff I wouldn't normally get to do with just Furia. Like I woke up yesterday thinking about this shipfic and it's been a lot of fun figuring out how it would roughly go down. Didn't plan on it at the start but hey it's a fun idea so whynot.

Also on the whole, this thread has given me some motivation to get over this writer's block I've held onto for wayyy too long. It's very nice.

Well, personally, I take a large mouthful of my drink of choice and hold it on my tongue as I write, imbibing as necessary to keep the depths of my imagination well-lubricated (I'm doing as much right now!). As for the others, they have this strange fixation on "talent" that I'm still taking the time to properly understand myself.
If you have a basic backstory, it shouldn't be too hard to create an elevator pitch. "This is a character who reveres the Old Ways, she dances to honor and evoke the spirits of battle. She uses a Lucario, Alolan Marowak, and Mandibuzz because all three learn Bone Rush."
If you don't know how to expand little things into bigger things, then don't worry about the big things and just focus on capturing a single scene--anything as simple as going through their morning routine or as complex as committing criminal terrorism against a business empire in order to establish who this character is and what their role is in the world, regardless of context. You can work backwards to establish how they got where they are at that point, or continue forward and peel back the character's origins one piece of exposition at a time as you progress.

Trainer licenses grant you the ability to capture, train, and most importantly, rent your pokemon in that region.
I.e. if a bakery wants to use an Alcremie but they don't have a trainer license, they can request a trainer to rent an Alcremie.
Cole's home region has already been heavily industrialized, so most of the dangerous legendaries and regular pokemon are mostly under government protection or extinct.

Nah, it's fine, Ayumu has a weak presence (don't know if you ever watched or read Noragami [highly recommend btw], but it's kinda like how it is for Yato) so even the world would take a while to notice, but when the time comes and he starts getting transparent or being pulled by some force, he would totally be like "Damn you dream! Are you already ending?! I haven't explored everything yet!! No! I don't wanna wake up yeeeee-(t)", then he would see himself back to his world, say "damnit", and keep going with his day, but for the next 2~3 times he sleeps, he would wake up slightly frustrated because the "dream" didn't continue.

Koa tends to trust his partners' instincts most of the time, but he's very involved. He doesn't say things like "dodge!", he makes gestures almost as if he were moving with his Pokémon. He tends to go into fights with endurance in mind. No overexerting his partners, no wasted movements, very martial-esque in that sense, but more mystical/naturalistic than how a Fighting type trainer would see it.

Koa wants fair fights, so he won't always spam super-effective moves, rather he gets creative with his approach towards the enemy. He'll also stay in when disadvantaged unless his Pokémon is in severe distress.

Also he's absolutely the type to say "thank you, partner" when his Pokémon faints.

i made bibis gimmick the ability to give nonverbal commands, essentially making it kind of hard to react to her pokemons attacks and such, she uses little signals to indicate moves 1 through 4 and basic additional commands like "focus on evasion" "aim low/high" "charge up the attack" etc, of course there can only be so many scenarios she's prepared for, so very specific commands still have to be called out like usual

in most cases though, she'll still call out attacks and punctuate them with the "extra" signals. she's got that kind of goku style desire for a good fight so she prefers it when her opponent can actually adapt, it's more fun to her

the exception is when there's something genuinely important on the line. strength isn't a factor, if she's fighting someone like cynthia in some big champion tournament like the anime, she'll fight as normal, but a weaksauce rocket grunt who's threatening to hurt someone? whole 9 yards, dead silent, all sportsmanship out the window

that aside she actively enjoys testing different approaches and seeks to make use of every tool available to win, stall, rushdowns, trick room, she's done it all. though if she has to name a preference, she loves boosting moves like quiver dance or clangorous soul for blitzing through fights

Rouka is meant to evoke that original feeling about the Pokemon anime. That sorta sense of freedom and adventure. It's partially why Rouka is such a screwup at first. Kinda wanna get that vibe that you get from Ash Ketchum in Season 1. Or just the bad decisions we all probably made in our first pokemon game. But as I developed her I feel like it's become a coming of age story. As her adventure goes on she goes from a novice to an ace trainer but while she changes she doesn't lose the core of who she is. Plus there's an extra layer of the "Gyaru" being seen as trashy and Jynx being seen as "ugly" and I like the idea of Rouka absolutely LOVING Jynx. It's got kind of a "beauty in unappealing" places.

I actually did and it makes me happy someone picked up on that. Gyaru aren't inherently bad girls but they are considered a rejection of Japanese social and beauty standards. Even Rouka skipped class and violated dress code as a kogal. I feel like pokemon, especially gen1 had a very rebellious energy and I wanna lean into that. I wanted her rival to be the opposite of a Gyaru without losing that rebellious attitude and I ended up going with a goth. And then just made her a gothic lolita for flavor. (And I know that gothic lolita and goth aren't the same thing. But in her case she's both.) And Oriko is meant to be an actual delinquent to play off Rouka. They both don't follow dress code and hate authority but in Oriko's case she spends her free time smoking and picking fights. She kinda brings out the rowdiness in Rouka but Rouka brings out the girliness in her.

oooh this was a good one. So I mentioned before that Orchis usually only uses 3 mons at a time. As Orchis he masquerades as a fairy-type specialist with Togekiss/Slurpuff/Whimsicott. As Kingu he uses Roaring Moon/Hawlucha/Togekiss. Of course his 6th mon is a Ditto which he swaps out with Togekiss on either side depending on what he's aiming for.
When in "Kingu" mode, he plays hyper offense. I remember once hearing a phrase in reference to Yugioh that goes by the lines of: "The only life point that matters is the last one." That's basically how Kingu approaches battles. The real X factor for him though is the just the sheer fucking balls and trust his Pokemon have for him and vice versa. Whatever crazy maneuvers with razor-thin margins of errors they have to perform to get the W they'll fucking do it and then some. In exchange Orchis does spend a lot of time, money, and effort on them to answer that faith in kind. It's also why he goes to Pokemon Centers very often before and after showtimes.

Orchis the assistant is a lot more a trickster. Tailwind Whimsicott, Sticky Web Slurpuff, Dual Screens, Yawn, Magic Coat, Taunt, the whole shebang of "annoying shit to deal with." If he's actually trying to teach someone he'll generally meet them where they're at. Ditto is actually really helpful to teach people new techniques, and Orchis himself tries to copy all different kinds of styles from people he's fought. When he isn't being a lilshit then he's actually imitating Nemona's style since he thinks it's rather well balanced and a good model for the youngins. It's also just the most sincere form of flattery.

Both styles individually have some pretty big flaws though. Kingu can fizzle out if he's unable to find openings and gain advantage, while Orchis lacks the power to fully capitalize on his bag of tricks. Honestly if he would use his full team in doubles (like for example in BA winkwink) then he'd probably be able to really punch above his weight class.

While on a fundamental level the canon pokemon world is a place where having a strong bond with your mons can push them to greater heights that can be tempered with the realism that such a thing does have limits. It doesn't have to be like the games where you can just pick out whoever you want without having any history and win nor do you HAVE to play by the rules of friendship always wins. Luck, skill, talent, connection, preparation, etc are all fundamentally intertwined and if try-hard chan wants to be stubborn and stay her path that's fine. It's basically impossible to create a Discord without impersonators, trolls, and degenerates coming in somehow. It's definitely possible through solid vetting/gatekeeping but I believe it's for the best to keep things contained in the thread. Even if we managed to contain everyone into some kind of RP server it would basically be impossible to try and coordinate things because so many of the OCs here are doing their own shit. Axel isn't going to care if some big shit is going down in Hoenn if he's in the PokeArctics trying to find an Articuno.
If you want to see OCs interact with eachother, the best way to do is to come up with some conversation pieces like VegaAnon/BibiAnon.

Discord is the only place that offers free and genuinely convenient instant messaging for communities of internet randos. Basically, it's anonymous texting. That's a tougher one... I think the below could be fun for people who lack drawing skills too. The prompt could use some fleshing out though.
