Pokemon had been getting worse for a while, but the Switch is where it became outright bad. The standards have shifted so much that we'd now be overjoyed to get a game on par with XY or ORAS, which would have been an utterly ridiculous statement 10 years ago

What are you talking about? Yes it did. There were tons of complaints about the anemic plot and the complete lack of a postgame, as well as lag which wasn't a thing until this generation.
This is also when global EXP share was introduced. Even though it was optional people still complained that it completely destroyed the level curve.

This was never a thing. Geodude, Zubat, Psyduck, Vulpix, etc appears in Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh.

I don't know why Unovafags pretend every region was like Unova where every gen's Pokemon were in their own separate universe until Kalos came along and magically ruined the series. Unova is the exception, not the norm.

Why pretend this is the same thing?
These were primarily used as filler pokemon and were never the main focus of the game.
XY jumped headfirst into nostalgia baiting by giving you a Kanto starter barely a quarter way into the game, and giving the Kanto starters mega evolutions (and giving Charizard two, one where he's a Dragon type. I dare you to say that is not peak nostalgia bait.) while the native starters got jack shit.

XY yes, it took months before the hype settled and opinions cooled. It mostly got a worse reputation in hindsight when things like the inaccessible power plants and the Volcanion journalist story never got followed up on. ORAS meanwhile had detractors from the beginning, even in the run up to release.

We did criticise these things, as well as the fact it was the only 3DS game that wasn't in 3d. But we also gave GF a lot more slack than we would now for it being their first non-pixel game.
